Someone that I know who bent my Lites reckoned they were outrageous broomsticks and should be banned (lovely rods) christ knows what he would say about the big guns. Anyways, unless a specific rod builder fishes long range (you know any) what are they going to do other than offer an uninformed opinion?
If this rod was as bad as you're making out, why is it sold by the manufacturer as a carp rod and not a beachcaster, maybe have a word with them and put them straight?

It's marketed as rod for when out and out distance outweighs all other considerations.
It's a broomstick than can be used as a fishing rod
Beach casters have softer tips for indication
Some rod builders keep demo rods for customers to try out, its getting less common now though

I've had the displeasure of playing a few fish on these. I think the difference is people's interpretation of ok to play fish, which doesn't mean it's enjoyable either.. just ok
They're completely compromised in favour of distance IMO, which is fine if that's what you want and can (or need to) wind them up properly.
They're tools for a job and as with most things there will always be somebody who can outperform you with inferior tools

This is not a remotely accurate description
They are very very stiff with no real tip to speak of. If i wanted to cast a loooong way but had no interest is actually catching, they'd be great. To me they are a casting rod, not a fishing rod (although i didn't catch when i used them!). The lites are a lot more useable

I've only had a dozen casts with them and didn't get on at all. I was casting to a mark at around 160 yds and hitting it comfortably with a 12ft fox horizon xt, but was well short with the 12ft treb, where it has so little flex your technique has to be near perfect to really use it
Rods I've used more that hit big distances have been horrendous to use below about 80yds, and these are a lot softer than the trebs

Agree with post 20.It depends what you want from a rod.
I love my trebs but i wouldn't have them if I had to use just one set of rods tbh if that makes sense.

The only rod i have used and do use in this bracket that has decent fish playing qualities is the ballista 13ft 4lb which i use for pike on the big scottish lochs, you can use these from 20yds to as far as you can cast and suffer no hook pulls and they bend into fish nicely. The trebs make nice things to grow runner beans up.
I have,nt used the bigger aviators enough myself but they get rave reviews from lads i have built them for.

You've already got the 13ft treb lites as you have said before. Over the last couple of years I've cast a few of the distance rods on the market as I've always been a fan of the infinity's for distance and wondered if there was anything I would prefer. Fact is there is a point that once reached you hit the law of deminishing returns, by this I mean there are some rods that can cast a baited rig to say 160 yards and still have an acceptable fish playing action but cannot be described as a players rod and going beyond this range requires an increase in power which kills any playing enjoyment and becomes far more critical of timing. At this level you really need to try before you buy and Tel20 would have been the man for this, maybe he still has a treb you could use on a tuition.

I've got 12ft Lites, not the 13ft numbers.
The reason for new rods is down to the overfit on one of the rods (you've seen the pics) being very worn, can only put that down to the previous owner who had them, possibly they had the fittings built up before I bought them.
As for playing fish, to be brutally honest, I'm just interested in catching rather than the fight. I'm not brutal with fish, quite the opposite, even still, I'd much rather land them than worry that somehow I've missed out on having a rod hooped over double admiring the bend in my rod. I'm fishing a relatively large/ low stocked water, so I don't want to lose anything I get a take from. Because the place is becoming more popular over time, fishing where others (or so I've seen) can't cast to is an edge for me. I'm not saying I'm some super duper ultra mega long range caster, far from it, all the same, every little extra bit helps.
The timing factor with the Trebuchets could be a problem, my timing can be a touch wiffy at times, added to that the swims on my place are horrible, like sloping banks down to the waters edge, tight swims, the decent open swims are very popular, so me rocking up on a weekend, chances are I get a s-hit swim...the ones I've been heavily baiting.
It's just a choice I've made for this year, that being fishing where others can't get to, or so I'm hoping. It is a rod I've made for my own back. The next place that I'm going to is even bigger with who knows what is in there, could be next to f..k all for all I know if the otters have gotten busy from what I'm hearing.

Out of the extreme distance rods you've used, which would you say are the most versatile/user friendly?
Even on huge waters I wouldn't always want/need to be casting huge distances, and as I said, the rods I've tried have been horrendous to use at closer range.
My fox xt spod for instance, is pretty accurate for me over 80 yds but below that I'll be dropping short or hitting the clip at warp speed 20ft above the water. With few casts in between. At that range/casting speed it's very difficult to consistently time it and tiny differences in speed make huge differences in distance
I even had to add 2 ozs of lead to the front of a dot spod to bring the usable range a bit closer

I had taken a couple of my reels with me, he lent me a handful of rods including both the trebs and treb lites, I took the rods to a lake about 10 minutes away and had a play for a few hours. I took my marker sticks so I could get a feel for the rods and get and confirm which I could cast further.
I ordered the Treb lites in 13ft.
Give some local rod builders a call and see if they could do something like this for you - then you can order from them or elsewhere.
