There are alternatives to Korda that are extremely decent and don't cost the Earth
Gardner's Slinky at various strains for a 100 yard for a fiver
Gardner do decent Hooks the Mugga is superb so are the Carp R US range.
Wychwood do crimps and crimp tools
Heat shrink from EBay
ESP Hook Grips
Gardner Swivels
These products are not only superb I believe they are better than the alternatives.
Fishing can be seriously expensive and thee are companies that at best don't pull your pants down by an advertising guru thats happy to sell average kit for inflated prices. Do some research ask questions there really is better options out there.
There really is a lot of decent companies out there that manufacture fair better products than Korda and yes I've found the majority of Korda tackle to be useless and overly expensive when I can find alternatives that are cheaper and higher quality.
Imo everything they produce is profit over quality.

Like you, I shop around to get good deals. Terminal tackle such as swivels, sleeves, lead clips, I get from bank tackle. Leads I buy in bulk from Carter's Leads, boilies buy in bulk during sale time, particles use pigeon conditioner (cheap as chips), end tackle wise, the only thing I don't go unbranded are hook link material and hooks, and I just shop around for good deals - for example, got 4 packets of Mugga hooks for just over £10 off eBay recently. I tend to steer away from Korda because that guy is making too much money!!
It is an expensive hobby, but you can make it cheaper.
