If you buy the ESP tapered shock leaders, there is a diagram inside showing you how tie the Mahin knot.
I also use a size 1/0 coastlock snap swivel so i can easily alternate between different sizes of spomb.

Dot spomb for me is the best I've ever used, I tried the spyder spomb and I really didn't like it not for me

What braid are you using? I use braid straight through on spod and marker rods, never needed a leader.

I use 30lb PP braid with a 50lb Kastking leader of about 2.5 rod lengths worth.

me use 100lb chinese ebay braid straight through, been on for about 6 years.
lose about a foot each time I pack down, only because I can't undo the knot.

You cant be casting out any big distances if you are using 100lb braid right through, you could use that heavy stuff as a shockie and have 30lb braid as the main reel line.
End the shockie in a large loop about 8-10" long, then tie a small overhand loop about an inch long at the end of the large loop.
Attach the spod loop to loop fashion and then the spod sits up against this small loop. Use the tag end of the small loop to easily open up the large loop if you need to remove the spomb.

I've just received delivery of the Dot Spod and it looks good. The design is quite unique and I can see why it will open every cast. I've yet to try it on the water, but I can't see any reason why I would use any other spod design over this.
One question ref spod attachment to mainline. I read somewhere on here someone recommending a double loop system, for quick and easy attachment and change of spods/spombs, but I can't locate this post. Can anyone post a link showing a diagram of this loop system?

Volume is my only one, I'd love a bigger version so I can ditch the large spomb

So i was out fishing today, first time using my spodding setup. Mainline is 20lb Daiwa J Braid with around 20ft of Nash 50lb shock leader, tied together with a double grinner. It was all going well until my tenth or so cast, thats when my double grinner came loose and i kissed goodbye to my dot spod.
I believe i tied the double grinner well, and i pulled it very tightly together, neat and tidy it was. I'm reluctant to put the blame on my knot tying skills, as i say, i think i tied it well. I'm wondering if the issue is the difference in thickness of the braids, the J braid is super thin, the shock leader is very thick. Could that be it? Or could it be the different types of braid material, maybe?
I continued spodding, this time simply tying a loop knot in my 20lb J braid mainline. I was only spodding to 50 yards, but i had no break off's, which leads me to wonder, might i be better off just keeling to this setup, and be done with using a shock leader?
