Agreed but I also think quite a high percentage of the fish go to the bottom of the lake and sit it out.
A syndicate lake in Tewkesbury right next to the Avon as within a few hundred meters I have fished for seven seasons on and off since 2011 and at least three of those it has badly flooded on occasions for nearly a month at a time by the time it resides, last winter being one and practically a carbon copy this winter also back in 2014 was another memorable year.
Other years it floods but up and down within a week the river and lake are basically the same level ground but each time you are looking at 3 to 4 feet on average above the lake level and even higher in the worst years but a very high percentage get caught season after season yet they've got enough depth of water across the adjoining fields when in flood than some lakes have all year round, it's nowhere near as big as Swarkstone at only 20 acres but again I think the larger the lake probably helps with them remaining rather than getting washed through also we have three islands various bays they can tuck up behind a reed lined bay/bank at the head of the lake that they can sit under the flow.

Yeah, I drove past it yesterday when I was taking my lad back to uni, it's still very flooded. The road to the west side of it was closed, and hence the fishery was closed because that's where you get access from I think. Be interesting to know how often and how long it floods annually on average, if you're shelling out over £500 a year and it closes for any significant periods, it becomes less attractive.

There are no surprises in Swarkstone unless some unknown cricket bats have flooded in from the river. The stock was extremely well known before Rich and the stockies have been well documented.
