Could there be an issue if the trade agreement that we did have with China was part of an EU wide deal? Now that doesn't apply to us so unless a continuation of terms has been agreed there could be changes.
I expect this is what the bulk of the 'new' trade deals are - an agreement to continue under the same terms we had as EU members.
On another note, are China not the enemy of the free world anymore? Just wondering. ..

The UK has scrapped the low value exemptions..it's not to do with Brexit it just so happened to coincide with the dates, 1st Jan.
Now all items imported from outside the Uk will incur additional costs
Under £135 total value and the vat should be paid at time of purchase
Over £135 (single consignment value) and it will then require vat / duties paying on import and so will likely also incur handling fees.
This is for items from the whole rest of the world

Although I'm not sure it is a simple 20% for vat, there will likely also be import duties which are different rates for different items. Fishing general bits seem to be 2% I think

So unless someone finds a loophole (which is likely they will) it's no longer cost effective to wait two months and buy cheap **** from Chi-nar.
We will have to buy the same **** from a UK seller and get it within a couple of days. Considering all the important things happening in the world today is it such a big deal?
One thing I've never been to understand is how a Chinese seller can sell and send something to me cheaper than I can send something to someone within the UK. If Royal Mail is subsidising the far east then that has to stop.

the loop hole will come from the ireland republic , and northern ireland , that has always had a history of vat and fuel tax fiddling, i gues sellers will start popping up in northern ireland , because i think to keep them all happy they may not have to pay the vat, or they will just cross boarder from the republic then post to us, one thing is if its going to happen , it will be like that, and lorrys bringing in high value small items instead of all the nigerians and imigrants over the french crossing, so to save the 20% for eg battery packs , usb sticks, memory cards, etc etc

But, just before Xmas in a Black Friday sale, I bought a Deeper chirp+ for £199 from the Deeper website. I was shocked to find it was coming from Lithuania, an EU country. I did read some where when I looked into it, that anything above £135 additional cost would have to be paid.
Following the tracking on it, when it got to the UK it was logged as being at an Import warehouse and was there a few days, I feared the worse that I was going to get stung with some additional costs that would bump the price up more than what the full price would be in the UK.
But, when it was delivered, there was nothing else to pay.
