No nothing like that amount of money. Two of my waters have publicly bans so I can't tell you what I pay but it's a lot less than £1000s and they are imho amongst the best waters in the country. Brilliantly run, brilliantly maintained, safe, secure, great members, loads of facilities. People charge £1000s for tickets cos they get away with it and are pulling peoples pants down.
And like I said my actual syndicate water is £100. The fish in this water are the smallest I fish for by a long way. But size doesn't matter when you have a great ticket. This place is like a little oasis. Tree lined all round. Deep clear water. Loads of snags. Quiet. A lovely place to send an afternoon or a winters day.

I've just joined one like this, middle of nowhere 30 members dug 32 years ago and never been fished. £450 a yr. Happy days

Are interviews just formal self introductions, or is there more to it ?
Can recommendations by other members, get you bumped up the list ?
Must be easier for "named anglers" to get tickets to places that are looking for publicity.
Wouldn´t mind an ancient 300-year-old tree lined Victorian estate lake, rough and rugged with no pegs, far from the madding crowd ... no other angler in sight.

No they are proper interviews. Normally conducted by all of the committee. This stops the person doing the interview just giving their mate a ticket. If you screw it up you won't be offered a ticket.
There's no bumping up any lists that I've ever been on or had people proposed on.
Certainly at least two of the waters I've been a member of will not offer tickets to named anglers. So far from making it easier, it actually automatically bars.

Not always, I became friends with a guy that ran a syndicate type water, we met at a CAA meeting and just hit it off, he asked where I was going on 16th June, don't really know yet, he said come and fish my water I'll get you a season ticket, ok I said but don't bother with the ticket, we met on the 16th and he gave me a ticket, oh god I thought how much will this cost me, £4 , he told me that many well known faces tried to join but he said there is no places, one that everyone knows offered him a large amount of cash but he still refused, he has passed on now but when fishing I always think of him.

Now there's a blast from the past. The CAA eh. I'll never forget the time that fat Frank tried to get into his car outside Bait 78 and the door was jammed on the curb with his massive bulk inside the car. A mate and I had to rock the car backwards and forwards so he could shut the door

I do like the idea of being vetted as it keeps the wallies away. Also like the idea of what the Cons and other waters do with their publicity bans; good on um I say

My work takes me onto estates just like you describe and they are all strictly private with no fishing on most, one in particular I've had a very close look at allows staff only to fish but none of them are anglers. Another I have become friends with the head groundsman and helped with vermin control and been given his permission to fish but it has taken time to earn his trust and put a foot wrong and I know I would never be allowed near the place again.

A few years back six of us were allowed to fish an old estate lake that as far as I know hadn't been fished for about twenty years. My mate had to put in months of work to wangle that one for us. It was lovely, but it did definitely become a bit of a distraction. Because no one had a clue what was in there, I just couldn't help calling in there all the time to have a mooch about.

Also the other factor for many people is a club rule of.... members 'must live within x amount of miles from said venue'
