Yes that's the one. I've taken what Spen 89 said and did and found some thin nylon cord,joined the cord together but increased the length by about 4 inches, jubilee clipped where the spreader meets the handle (that's where I cracked it) and just come back in after trying it it seems so much easier. A fish will be the litmus test though.

Is it the handle that's broken rather than the arms.? If so I'd be tempted to perform a proper fix, try and make it as strong as the original as it's a fulcrum point and will surely break with any leverage applied to it. If it's the arms into the steel ends I sawed them both flush and gently drill the carbon arms out, think it was a 10mm drill I used then epoxied them back in, they will only be a couple of inches shorter

Thanks again Ben. It's the handle where the spreader goes in so I don't think that's repairable I put a jubilee clip over the crack so time will tell. I thought about drilling the holes in the spreader it's about 8mm to 10 mm to give me a bit more wriggle room I still think there would be enough tension, I tried drilling but it's mighty tough stuff and all I ended up with was a burnt out drill bit!!
