No, let's rest the venues for a year. We could could all spend our angling time productively helping clearing drainage ditches, river and canals. Cleaning venues and improving facilities, doubt many will be up for that though.

Not anytime soon mate.
IMHO Only when this horrible virus is under control, or someone has a proven vaccine ( months way yet ) and when people stop dying at a horrendous rate in the UK or globally, would I think about going fishing. The carp can wait.
Crikey, we cannot even test 100,000 people to see if they have it now, or the anti body test to see if they have HAD the virus.
The published figures are well under the REAL numbers. Many lives under the radar have been lost to it.

Park the idea of anything of any substance coming out of tomorrow's announcement.
Absolutely no way you can justify opening garden centres and not implement phase 1 of the Angling Trusts plan.
Garden centres are all but guaranteed to open, so opening syndicates and limiting travel to x amount of miles is a lot safer than queuing to buy plants which are in no way shape or form essential.
Maybe big fisheries like linear or farlows or bluebell should be forced to stay closed unless they can limit swims, but small syndicates with limited travel? Very low risk compared to garden centres.
I have no issue if they keep the lockdown, but if they do it has to stand as it is now or be stricter. ANY relaxation and fishing must be relaxed too.

The problem with limiting travel can potentially create further risk within the boundaries of the water itself though. For example, I can travel 90 miles to my syndicate water (30members) which at most ever sees half a dozen people on 25 acres. I've paid for that privilege .
However, if travel is restricted, I only really have two other options, join one of two local clubs. For example one is Ringwood, 10 miles travel... Too a series of very busy venues with a club of over 2,000 members where social Distancing is a lot lot more difficult.

Thousands of jobs depend on garden centres as outlets for the growers plus all the staff the centres themselves employ. Many centres also sell fruit and veg from the growers who have lost vast income as this is there peak season.
I'd bet jobs this industry out number those in carp and course fisheries by several hundred to one.

Just a quick point - the daily deaths haven't been above 300 since 30th April (pending any delayed reported deaths for whatever reason).
I think the figure you are referring to is deaths reported on each day which is very different to the ‘daily death toll'.
For what it's worth, in theory, I would support some loosening of the current situation provided the general public can be sensible and responsible- unfortunately I'm not sure I have faith that the population generally can though.
I think the only change for me would be to go fishing (but I'm lucky to have two syndicates with low number of members and can almost guarantee I would be able to distance). Given that my closest outdoor area is Clapham Common - and having no desire to join the masses there it would be nice to see some greenery after 7 weeks.
Other than that nothing else would really change for me. Weekly shop, work from home, exercise at home etc etc.
One other view that a mate has is that people who will take the piss are doing so already, it will enable those who are being responsible a little more leeway to do a few more things (responsibly) with likely minimal excess risk.

One thing I didn't know until I read the news this morning is that from Monday wales can exercise as much as they want. Does that mean they can go fishing?

They wont have been told anything about fishing that will be left to the angling trust who I expect already know but wont release a statement till after boris has addressed the nation.Mind you there a certain fishery in west Sussex who must be an mp and know something as in his words"its looking positive for open for business as usual from 9 am Monday" and taking bookings what a bell end

I think the Angling Trust shouldn't have been asking people to sign a petition to get us angling quicker. It's no different to the closed season, and this break would have helped fish and fauna. A lot of places would have seen their fish spawn hassle free without the stress of capture prior or post spawning.
Plus, it means it's an additional (at least) three weeks where tens of thousands of anglers are NOT popping into the corner shop for cigarettes, the co-op for for milk, tea bags and the supermarkets for food. We need to think of the health of others and not our own "needs". For the first time since the mid nineties, we're just going to have to swallow the break in festivities.

It's not just about getting us fishing it's also about the fisheries weather it be right or wrong they must have had pressure from both sides
