Sorry but if you hit the clip and feel the lead down properly on a tight braid the elastic should still be at the tip. You don't gain any line by the lead penduluming back on a tight line. If you have to tighten up you add that line to the amount you are already short and compound the error. Fishing at 100yd into 20ft water the dropback is 8ins with normal variables, not worth worrying about. Deep water/short range is different, 50yds into 50ft and its 8ftdifferent ball game. What would happen if you get a bow in the line during the cast? which sometimes happens with a crosswind

Unless you are fishing to a tight line you are not accurate. The bigger the bow, the bigger the error.

In some conditions it is inevitable that i would get a bow in the line and end up short of my spot but by marking the line i would then have a better idea of how far i was dropping short and adjust accordingly.

I would say fish to the conditions. You can't beat the weather, you have to fish round it. Whatever works for you.

Very good point if you are using pellets and particles they could hit bottom a long way from any boilies in your spod mix. Think about how you could use groundbait alongside some of the denser liquids to try to bind the mix, probably won't hold together beyond 20ft but it will help a lot.
