Never fished quite that range, but when chucking a feeder 80/90 yards while match fishing I used to add weight to guru hybrid feeders and then put a small pva bag on the feeder, held in place with some pole elastic. As the bag melts the elastic pulls through it so it's unseen. Nice and quick to recast, literally seconds.

I have used the method all year round for nearly 30 years and stopped using feeders well over 20 years ago, I just wrap the paste round a 2 or 2 1/2 oz inline lead. Using my torrix (hardly a casting tool) 100 yards is achievable with 15lb line straight through. Tend to fish just scolded pellet and it stays on well. With a proper rod, leader and lighter line no doubt it'd fly out there.

Do you stick the hookbait into the paste moulded around the inline lead?
I guess the concern would be of the hookbait landing under the lead and not getting released in that instance.if you dont mould it inside do you not get tangles with an inline lead?

I use about a 5-6 inch braid rig and break the bottom half of the ball off the lead, pull it down so only about 2 inches of the rig remain then remake ball, meaning the rig is mostly inside the ball with just the 2 inches hanging. I don't get tangles this way and using a waiter I don't think it can end up under the ball, plus the first fish in the area will move it about anyway. Smaller fish tend to bash it about but the better ones seem to find the hook pretty quickly.

Yes good point I could keep the same set up but use smaller lead molded in paste.. the options are endless, dont know why more people dont use paste.. I grew up using great big lumps of trout pellet paste free lined in the margins.. fish used to go mad for it...

Not that I would recommend them in silt but a round pear type lead in the bottom of a small bag may be worth a look?
Lead in the bottom of a small narrow bag, helicopter style braid hook length hooked into the bag, fill with micro pellets or stick mix etc, squirt of a good hydroslate. Squeeze the air out and taper the bag up your leader.
For method feeders you would need a hell of a rod, spod type for anything decent sized, I would say a method feeder you are looking at 120 max unless your a bit of a superman

I agree with you about the distance. Anything over 100 yards in anything but the calmest conditions would be sporting with a method feeder.

I didnt want to have to both with pva as it's a pain to redo casts when wet.
I use a 3.75tc harrison trebuchet lite, I regularly cast with 4.5oz leads, as long as i get the weight right it should be pretty easy.

Make them from round inline distance leads. 2 rubber washers the same external diameter. 2p size for example but 2 different internal diameters. Slide the bigger down the lead till it bites and glue then repeat with the smaller of the 2 and glue into position.

You are forgetting a method ball of that weight would be much bigger than a lead, nowhere near as streamlined either. Long range and method fishing really don't go together very well at all
