personally I would never have scooped it up after the hook pull I would of looked at it been gutted but thats it

as far as I am concerned it evaded capture plain and simple no merit in netting it so never in a million years would I have done

but we are all individuals

Ignoring one beep liners for thirty mins while sat in your swim? What a bell end, and you should have told him to go check it out after the first beep not that he should have been there while his rods were out. This would have got him and possibly you banned on most decent sindycate waters.

I think it's a spur of the moment thing, you either lung or you don't. The fight had gone from rod to hand line then butterfly net so the blood is up and he reacted 'naturally' in the heat of the moment. Count or not it makes a good tale.

I didn't count an upper thirty as it was hooked in the peck - many other would have done. I caught it again a few months later so I had the last laugh.

The only rules in fishing are those made up by clubs and water owners but the ones that count most are the one's we make for ourselves.

If the hook has pulled on a fish just in front of the net and it's a simple mater of pushing the net forward and the fish goes in, I would count that as a capture and would be pleased to weight and photograph it.

Can't see anyone suddenly pulling the net back and letting it swim off saying o we'll never mind.

Ive had hook pulls when the fish is over the net and scooped them, and they have counted in my eyes, ive caught fish where ive held the line to strike played the fish with the rod underwater then handlined the fish into the net as no space for rod overhead. Ive even caught two 20s where one was hooked and the other fish followed it into the net. It all counts.

Personally I would have counted it, it took the bait and was fairly hooked (I am presuming that there was evidence that the hook had pulled from the mouth), yes the hook had pulled before it was netted, but there is no doubt that he had hooked the carp fair and square.

My pb got heavily weeded a few yards from the bank and I waded in to land it whilst my mate held my rod and kept a tight line, I have no trouble in counting that even though technically he was holding the rod when it was landed.

In another case my old fishing mate tried using deadbaits to catch some wily carp we thought never picked up angler's baits and were fry feeders, he hooked a big carp and we thought we had cracked it only to find it was hooked in the pec, he didn't count it, nor would I. It was 40+.

My first thought was to claim it but then I thought about it a bit more and wasn't so sure.
It's down to the individual but I think I would.

I have certainly read a fair few stories of the hook pinging out at the net but the carp still being landed with a lunge forward with the net before they sink out of view.

I'm sure I've had it happen more than once myself, are we counting them? I am.

I'd say it counts. That seems to be the general consensus on this thread and I would tend to agree.
The angler imho was very fortunate indeed to land it and I would say it was just his lucky day.

I would certainly count it 100%

If you caught that 20lb+ bass and the hook came out as it hit the beach,would you grab it before a wave took it back out to sea or leave it to go on its way

as I said its a personal thing and I dont need my ego massaged by a fish I didnt land properly

but if the hook fell out in the net as it often does thats different
and of course opinions are like bum holes we ALL have one

As long as it was hooked in the mouth during the fight and then the hook popped out but you managed to net it. Counts for me.......
