are the vader rods as soft and forgiving under the tip as the chub small water rods.
im still enjoying my tfg 10ft compact commercial rods, but good to have options for the future as they are discontinued now

Tom, I don't know your budget, but if you can, have a look at the Ballista 10 foot 2.75tc rods. They really are nice rods to play fish on. Proper rods for proper small water fishing.

2.25lb enough for extracting upper 20's / maybe a 30 from a small little/reedy lake

Will be fine. Had them up to low 30 on a 1.5.
He made a meal of it but my old man landed a 28 on my 6' float rod as kid, nearly pulled me in the drink. The carp boys weren't impressed when the missing trotter brother slipped it in the pan net

I just got a set of 10' VaderX rods to see if I wanted to go the short rod route, and use whilst I get a set of rods custom built.
I used them for the first time at the weekend and they are absolutely amazing value for money. I had a quick chuck and was getting 60 yards fairly easily. I caught a strong fighting common of 18 lb and the fight was great with what appeared to be a nice through action on the rod.
for £36 per rod I was impressed to say the least...
Probably don't need to get a set custom built (but will anyway!!)

This is my concern. Was about to pull the trigger on the Xtractor 9ft 2.75 but worried it's not going to have any bend in it when playing the smaller carp.

I have tried the 2.75 9ft Xtractors, just to see how they compare to the equivalent scopes. In my opinion, they are a little too stiff and feel beefier than you would expect for a 2.75 rod.
I bought a pair of Wychwoods 10ft FLTR (2.25lb) rods for about £40 each to use as my small water set up. They are excellent value and look great for the money. Nice light crisp blanks too.
Light rods like this are more than capable of landing most fish you'd hook in the Uk, the issue will only come when you are putting out 3oz leads or bags.

Following some of the reviews on here I took the plunge (albeit low cost one) and just taken delivery of a set of 3 x TFG Compact 10ft Carp rods in 2.5lb. I bought them as a cheap rods for when go camping, thinking cheap and cheerful ....... but oh my, the blank of the TFG rod is simply stunning and one of the prettiest i have seen, and i am yet to hear a bad word about the action. So nice, that they have instantly relegated my Chub Smallwaters to travel/spare rods.
I normally stick with ESP/Drennan for my main rods and never thought i could be moved away from my Tectrix or MK1 Snipers but I cant wait to use these new TFG's .... and the price is ridiculous at the moment at less than £30 a rod. I hope TFG stays under the radar for most people as some of their rods are lovely and unbelievably priced (original X-Series carp rods, their more recent classic range and compact range are all lovely rods)

Been looking at 10 ft rods , a few I have looked at have 50 mm but rings , why do it , I really don't see the need .
