SA confirmed the mutation occurred in a vaccinated person. I have read from various sources Most of the UK cases are vaccinated too which would make sense as there is far more people vaccinated than unvaccinated.

South Africa have had it longer than us and their scientists are reporting totally different findings than our scientists.Who is wrong,who is right is it scare tactics by our government,I didn't spend last Christmas with my 81year old mum because of covid then find out Boris and his idiots were loving life having a Christmas party.Well this year I'm seeing my mum at Christmas no matter what I'm told,the government can go get ****ed because I'm sick of listening to lies and bull****

I just got pinged by test and trace, I'm guessing for the locator form I had to fill in to renter the UK. Someone on one of my flights has clearly tested positive for Covid-19.
Thought I had to self isolate until Xmas day briefly!
I'm exempt I just found out though, I'm double jabbed, and have a negative PCR test result from a couple of days ago. I just had to order a load of tests to test myself daily. As long as I'm returning negative results I'm exempt from isolation as I understand it.

Symptoms can take 4-8 days and for it to show positive on a test.You very may well have it and how many people will you see in that time thinking you are negative

I already took measures to make sure that I see no one whatsoever Tony as soon as I found out... Just in case.
Why would I not? I work from home anyway, so it's pretty simple for me to get myself out of the way. Our work for Xmas is virtually done anyway now.
I had a very reassuring talk with my daughter in law (paramedic). She assured me that with an FFP3 mask on for both of my flights... I will not have it anyway. She gets constantly pinged and is constantly tested. FFP3 masks means she's never had it. So one encounter whilst masked up properly, I should be fine.
I hope she is right.

The virus isn't sentient. It's not doing anything on purpose. It mutates in a random manner. Some of these mutations have no doubt been stopped in their tracks by the vaccine, not so for Omicron. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be more deadly than anything we've seen before, but that's just down to luck. Eventually the form which survives the best and becomes endemic will be less serious and unlikely to kill many hosts, but there's nothing to say that in the meantime another variant could come along which is as transmissible as omicron and more deadly that anything we've seen before.
The more unvaccinated people in the world, the more chance of mutations and new variants, it doesn't matter whether they are unvaccinated because they refuse or because they're simply unlucky enough to be born in poor places.
The richer countries would probably be better off devoting their energies to sending vaccines to developing countries rather than wasting their time trying to change the minds of those who will never be convinced at home.
