Great Britain? a self awarded title that was based on exploitation and colonial bullying.

the FSM issue just highlights the huge divide between the wealthy and the deprived in this country. It's usually managed within the school system so it gets to those who need it - i.e. the children.
now it's having to be managed more by politicians it falls apart - the voucher scheme had been set up and was working effectively in so many cases. then - for god knows what reason - it was ditched for the farce of what we've seen this week.
food banks have never seen the demand they currently have. food poverty is a hidden national crisis.
and we're still subsidising MP's lunches...

I assume the foodbox idea was because people thought the poor are not capable of making good choices at the supermarket. Maybe they'd squander the vouchers on one jar of caviar and five boxes of After Eights.
The way the poor are viewed and treated is shocking.
The number of rough sleepers in my home town is shocking, especially when you only visit every six months or so, yet it's 'a lifestyle choice' according to every mean spirited git I've ever mentioned it to.

That's how it was back then. Things have changed. It's called history, same as where we are now, in another 50 years, change, change, change...
You keep bleeting on about this country. Go and live in India or some other third world **** hole like that, **** all, absolutely ****ing nothing, no food, no healthcare, no water systems and no ****ing electric for lighting etc. Christ, don't even mention a TV, radio or ****ing hair dryer

Same old Upstairs Downstairs way of looking at things as always.
We have to make sure ALL kids get what they need, even more so in turbulent times, then deal with the piss takers, bums and stiffs. Your view is quite common in this country unfortunately. Make rules for the lowest denominator and apply to all. You see it with fishing clubs, day ticket waters all walks of life. Make the majority abide by the rules made for the dickheads.

When UNICEF have identified that child poverty in Britain is such an issue that they are having to step in to feed them, like they do in third world countries. Can we call ourselves a first world country anymore??
It won't be long before we are being sent aid from the wealthiest of countries.
Serious social reform is needed in this country, but then you'll always have the people that label the majority by the minority and look to deal with issues in that way. Whether it's poverty, unemployment, homelessness, education or whatever else.
Let's pose a question, would those that oppose giving families cash for FSM because they might spend it all in crack dens and brothels give a toss if those parents were earning it themselves by working and then spending it in those places?

i understand both points of view, yes we should be helping those who need it and ensure we all have enough essentials in life, BUT if we were tougher and more vigilant on those that receive benefits and ensure it is only those who really need it receive them there would be more in the benefit pot to assist those who really need it. Thats what people get frustrated with the number of individuals taking the p*** and not the ones who really need it.

Doesn't this just mean that overall you're frustrated that your tax money is not only going to people that abuse the benefit system, but it also goes to an ineffective system that allows them to abuse it without repercussion?
Can sit there all you like and moan about the abusers but no one seems to moan about the public servants that are meant to find, stop and prosecute them.

benefit fraud does need to be tackled - in the same way as tax fraud (and more recently 'furlough fraud') and other cheating the system does. that builder who says 'cash is king' so he can be creative with his tax return is just as much a problem as those who falsely claim benefits. As are the big businesses and high earners who use tax avoidance loopholes
but the point here - which people are missing while they get on their comfortable high horse and rant about people having mobile phones and Netflix and tar all FSM families with their same prejudiced blinkered brush - is that those who are in need of the free school meals are THE CHILDREN. The kids aren't benefit cheats. And of the 1.4 million (and increasing) families who qualify (yes it is means tested) for this, it's a minority that might spend the money elsewhere.

Scozza , with regards to having an election , thats all well and good , but when the people that form peoples opinion lie and are not held to account , what then ? there are meant to be laws regarding reporting and news feeds at the time of elections , well ,unless there is someone that threatens "the established order " and their corrupt grip on society , what happened in the last election was not reported on , except here ,
