The syndicate I am on and bailiff has shut down for the 3 initial weeks.
Statement from the fishery manager put out to the members regarding membership is:-
"If the situation continues into the season then memberships will be extended into next season pro-rata."
We don't have a close season as such. The season runs May 1st to end of March but if you do two work parties over the winter you can fish the April.
Message only sent out over the last couple of hours on our FB and WhatsApp group and no-one disagreeing or complaining so far.

I am positive that Anglian Water are extending permit life by the close down period, yet not all syndicate or season ticket fisheries will be able to afford to.
This social distancing, I'm again sure that some of the groups I have seen together are not family groups, not when they split up and go different ways when they finish their dog walk. A couple of guys earlier today, as I tied my dog up outside the shop, again, no social distance between them, mates getting close exactly as they would if they hadn't seen each other for a while.
On the Coronavirus itself, there have been many people who had a minor cold or case of flu, or even showed no symptoms. A headache, sniffles, dry cough, pretty much what you get with any flu, or absolutely nothing, yet because symptoms are or were so mild were not tested, and they recovered. Yet sadly their mother or father who has had a lung disease previously unknown or had underlying conditions died, and the cause has been reported as Coronavirus. There are very few that Coronavirus or Covid-19 has killed directly.
Please don't think me flippant or uncaring, I do care.
I worry for my daughter who is an essential worker, she is a Care Home Manager. The people she has to care for, what she must be facing every day. Every NHS worker, every shop staff worker, lorry driver who is at risk. Even worse is some of these, those who have been infected, but have no symptoms, could still be passing it on.
The current estimate from Scientist.org I think it is, is that in the UK the Coronavirus will be responsible for 1,400 more deaths than 'usual' in UK. Yet the seasonal flu is responsible for around 6-8,500 each year.
I am not of the opinion that the current lockdown is best for the health of all of us, I think it is possibly being used to get Coronavirus spread, so we get some immunity from future outbreaks. How many people in your circle are infected? your circle includes your shop staff as well as your family or lockdown group. Do they have symptoms? Is that a smokers cough or a dry cough...
Many, many people could self-isolate or reduce their risk of infection, by going fishing, by hiding in their mountain hut, or by total quarantine, total self-isolation in their home as per 'monsieur le gamer' .
Adding in any needing to leave the house, you add risk.
I know many people who like being on their own away from the world, it is a habit.
Sadly because guidelines put forward by the government, for whatever reason, were ignored, we have been put on lockdown.

So if you'd booked a holiday or say a ticket to a concert and now can't go would you be happy to lose your money ?
I watch ice hockey and this season got cancelled with 5 out of 27 season ticket home games left unplayed, but you can claim that missing ticket money back pro rata.
Presumably the same would apply to football if the season didn't finish.
I don't see the difference just because it's fishing.

I was a member of a local golf club for a number of years, the cost of membership was a lot, (and I do mean a LOT), more expensive than any syndicate.
During the winter months the course could be closed for weeks, sometimes a month or two if the weather was particularly bad. We didn't get refunds, nor expect them. It was just "one of those things"....

He was right though, this is likely to be months not weeks, and I admire the resolve of the people on here who say that they are not going to get in their car for any reason other than the shops.
For probably 3 months they are just going to do the same little walk round the block where they live every day, never tempted to get in the car and go somewhere a bit different or nicer if they know a place where they can avoid all contact with anyone
As time goes on mental health will become a bigger issue, no matter how nice your family and home is, everyone will struggle being couped up for months

I have a nice little river a 10 minute walk from home, give it 3 weeks and I might be sorely tempted to have an hour at dawn.
I'm still able to work but my Mrs is stuck home with the kids, right now I have to put there needs first

I've just been past a large factory near where I work. The boss is an absolute toss piece apparently. He uses as many Eastern European's as he can so he can bully them and pay them minimum wages. He buses then in to work in minibuses. There was a group of at least 50 people standing outside waiting for their transportation at shift change. I've actually seen with my own eyes the boarder force raiding his factory. You think a guy who cares so little about his own staff is gonna shut of his own accord? No chance. It's selfish pigs like him who will end up either getting us even stricter lockdowns with curfews etc or dragging it on for months.
Trouble is he's laughing as it makes flatbreads for Indian food so he will claim his factory Is a key supplier. I bet he's already doubling his prices

Yes i will do whatever im told by goverment at this critical time. What bit of stay at home dont you get? Non essential travel? If you want to flout the advice thats down to you...id call that being stupid but hey ho your entitled to your veiws....as are we all.
