Seen a few posts in recent days of people from Facebook Marketplace buying a cheap £10 item then the house getting burgled a few days later for all the fishing stuff. I am on alert at the moment as I sold someone something for £10 at the weekend and they were asking for a lot of details. I didn't give anything away apart from postcode and met them outside my house but they did manage to see which house I come out of unfortunately. Going to work from home the next few days just to be safe but just a heads up as there's so many scum bags about if you use Facebook to sell items.

thanks for sharing, I wouldn't have given this much thought and probably invited people in for a cup of tea. 
When I sold gear on EBay I've always arranged to meet a local park lake.

Many years ago I had all my match gear stolen.
Police reccond I'd been followed home from my LTS or from a match.
If people are really going to do this they will follow you from the lake.
They can walk round and see what you have. Then talk to you to see when you are off.
Never tell anyone when you are leaving. Always be vague never tell anyone when you are leaving.

I always arrange to meet at my local supermarket car park
It's why I wouldn't sell anything for 10 quid, I also pay 120 a month to store my tackle in a secure container away from my house .

Always deliver (if local) . . .that way you get their address as well as knowing that they're not tyre kickers. Further afield and for big ticker items always meet in the middle - again this way you know if they're serious or not . . .smaller items / collections on FBM NEVER give them your home address; I always meet in the carpark of the local supermarket. TBF I do worry about postal orders . . .in this instance you have to supply your address (unless you can deliver to your place of work etc) and the likelihood of someone trekking down from miles to scope out your garage / shed is unlikely however still possible

As a buyer I'd be very suspicious if the seller wanted me to meet in somewhere like a carp park

Yes why would someone break in to nick fishing stuff. It's big and bulky and there's no way of knowing whether the gear is any good.
To me my gear is perfectly adequate but it's old and not worth much

My mate got done over big time after he advertised something on Facebook Marketplace and had a couple of dodgy looking blokes turn up and he reckoned, checked over the place. (Garage in this instance.)
I have sold stuff on ebay but wouldn't ever advertise locally for a home pick up again.
Recently I chucked out some old bait rolling kit that would have been too expensive to post as it wasn't worth the risk.
My garage has got a ground lock, a Yale alarm inside and an old alarm horn outside (that isn't wired up but don't tell them that!)
If you publicise your catches anywhere, you are making yourself a target. Sad but true and don't expect the police to be of any use.

But you have some that walk round lakes like they are window shopping.
They see 4k sat on a pod 1k bivvy. They will talk to you ask if you are local and when your off the water then follow you. Chances are if you have that sort of gear on the bank you have more.
The other one is if you do get turned over chances are within 6 months they will be back.
They will gamble you are insured and will have replaced it.
