A couple of years ago my wife bought me two of these reels as a birthday present, with intention of using them on the river after carp. So far they've been faultless but not long had a good fish, that went on numerous powerful runs upstream. A couple of times the anti reverse slipped which sent me in to a panic. I've played many fish on back wind, but wasn't expecting it. Any long term users out there? Or anyone experienced similar issues?

this is quite common with these reels speaking to users of them,i bought a set 2nd hand and sold them within a week, 2 of the 3 reels anti reverse would fail quite often when if the spool was in a certain position. people big these reels up but for me I wasn't impressed .

I've had a set of them for 3 or 4 years now and caught carp to over 40lb on them and never had this issue, or any issue to be honest. For £50 a reel they have been absolutely faultless for me

Yeah it does happen apparently, I have 6 and not happened on any of mine in 3 years ive used them.

I've had six of them since they first came out (5-6 years back?) One of mine did it , and it was my own fault for not servicing them enough.
Gave it a quick clean, oiled all the locations requiring lubricant, and it's never happened since.
Also I use them a lot for Barbel fishing, so they take a hell of a lot more hammer than when Carp fishing, with this in mind I do service them every couple of months.

I'll have a good look at mine at some point. I can't fault them otherwise, really nice reels, more than enough cranking power for the river, and a lovely progressive clutch. Ended up having another carp on the ‘dodgy' reel and the same thing happened. Managed a third on the other rod, and the reel was fine.

I bought a couple of these reels off eBay and quite quickly realised that the anti reverse was like this on both my reels I got in touch with okuma via email and they put me onto the spares dept which sent me a pack of springs foc.what I did was use both springs together which strengthens it and makes the reel good again.
Just make sure you have the correct tool for taking the spindle bolt off thou as they are quite fiddly.great reels thou once fixed

Out of interest who do you contact if you need okuma spares. I have several okuma reels it would be good to know

I have had a pair of these for years.
They put up with solid use, about 20 to 30 hours a week on runs waters and specimen waters, then sat in a rod sleeve in a garage for about 2 years, dug them out over the last couple of weeks, not once have they missed a beat.
Because of these reels, i became a convert from Daiwa/Shimano and will now be looking to pick up a pair of Obsidian's for my 12ft'ers in the coming weeks.
