Afternoon all,
I'm on my second Wychwood Tactical Brolly. The central boss has a nasty habit of corroding anytime it gets within a 1km of any moisture.
I hate bivvies purely because of collapsing them during the winter when they are wet is a horrible chore
So, are there many brollies that have minimal moving parts (which in theory I should have weather proofed in hindsight) or is there an absolutely fool proof bivvy I can use in -2 on a January morning without wanting to cut my hands off due to the pain?

I'd second the Tempest. I bought my V2 to use as only a brolly, but ended up buying the front and skull cap wrap to use it as a full bivvy. The only time I prefer a traditional brolly is day fishing in winter, when I can tuck spare clothes and waterproofs up in the spokes to stop them getting damp.

The only reason I use a brolly for winter piking is that 9 times out of 10 it gets chucked in the bag wet and it was cheap.

I wouldn't advise one of these unless you absolutely can't afford anything else, and even then I'd suggest a tesco bag for life and a couple of bamboo sticks before one of these.

I've got a hide xl and it does go up and down pretty quickly once you're uses to it. First couple of goes I was a bit hesitant because I was paranoid of breaking the central boss

I totally agree a nightmare to collapse an oval is out of date a tempest is so much better easier to go up more stable and using the strap goes up exactly the same every time

Have to disagree. Switched from a Tempest to one and find it much better and easier to setup. The Tempest is great and I have recently bought, but yet to try the uni spider which is a very similar design as I wanted some of the extras not available for the undercover brolly, but in regards to quality I find Solar for better than the Trakker. Personal opinion

Tempest brolly 100, nothing compares in my opinion, lightweight, goes up in a minute, plenty of coverage and you can get every accessory under the sun, in my opinion it's the ultimate all round shelter.

Totally agree It can't be beaten imo someone on here said the solar looked typical Chinese cheaply made and thinking of giving it away after having a lot of trouble collapsing it and poles at different lengths

I'd say the tempest also, so easy and fast to put up and take down, even in the depths of winter with cold hands its still a breeze. You have the added option of then being able to add a front, mozzie panel, skull cap etc etc if needs be. But the basic brolly shelter is spot on, i use mine pretty much exclusively.

As an aside my mates got a tempest, several years old now. I'd rather have one of the newer versions of the tempest than the hide xl I currently have

Anyone with more than an ounce of common sense knows Solar dont make junk !
and there are LOTS of folk using these quality shelters including a few forum members
I really dont understand the silly childish comments of some people in this thread thought we were mainly adults on here ? some people need to grow up
I find mine far easier and quicker to put up and down than my Tempest that I sold on too
