I'm looking a set of rods for fishing up to a 100 yards but are a players rod a don't want anything stiff would sacrifice casting distance for a playing action, when I used to fish 10 years the average test was 2 3/4 now all I'm seeing are 3 1/2 and 3 3/4 test curve. I used to fish in England 10 years ago but moved to the USA 8 years ago and this spring started carp fishing again after finding out about spots near me. I have a set of 10 foot 3lb test sonik Vader rs rods right now and had fox warrior rods in England but now I'm looking for a high quality set of rods. The waters I fish are big rivers that are weedy and snaggy and I just recently found a 100 acre gravel pit, most of the time on rivers I am fishing around 10 yards out but want a rod that is capable of around 100 yards for the gravel pit. The river fish are hard fighting fish around 12lb - mid 20s with a chance of a 30lb fish so I want soft rods that I can use to keep the fish away from snags with out getting hook pulls. The reels I would be pairing these up to are penn affinity 7000 which I love, Carp tackle isn't as easy to get I can't go to a shop and would have to order online with limited selection I could get the following:
Century stealth graphene - 12 3 1/4 (heard these are a softer rod even In the 3 1/4 test curve)
Harrison ballista 12 foot 3lb
Harrison torrix all test curves (thinking 2 3/4)
Free spirit ctx
Harrison cerbera
The place I order from said they could special order from the brands and considering they gave century, Harrison and free spirit I could probably get a rod from them brands, if none of the above isn't something recommended.
Was thinking about the Harrison Acurix in 2 3/4 or 3lb test.

Without hesitation torrix 12ft 2.25 t.c . ( I have a pair in classifieds) Excellent players rod casting i can achieve way more than 100yds .Next on my list of recommendations would be Harrison accurix in any t.c.I cant comment on century rods or anything else unless its a harrison blank.

I have used CENTURY NG 2.75 rods for many years
brilliant players rods had lots of big fish to 68lbs on them too extremely capable and a joy to play any size fish on
the English fifty pounder in my profile pic was from a tree that a storm had bought down and I fished close to it stopped the fish going into the snag no bother

Did they discontinue the ng I cannot see them anywhere do you know what replaced them?

Still do them, tackle box and total fishing have them, don't think they do the 2.75tc any more though only 3lb su or 3.5tc.

The carbon patterns are cut using a CAD CAM machine that holds extremely tight tolerances and this ensures the action and T/C is faithfully reproduced from rod to rod. Additionally NG's are subject to our Autoclave Technology curing process which significantly reduces test curve decay. New to the latest generation of NG's is Century's Anti Twist Technology – ATT – which involves winding very fine carbon fibre prepreg around the internal circumference of the blank which radically assists ring alignment during the cast.

You missed the paragraph above that states the current model is the NG+

Regardless of the manufacturer of the make of rod you buy, it's the action of the rod that is most important. Most carp rods these days seem to be fast action and when playing a fish, only the tip end bends.
I bought 3 Grey's pike 3lb test curve rods many years ago with a through action designed for casting deadbaits long distances without ripping the hooks out. Many a person has commented on how well they play fish when they see me landing one and very impressed. Especially when in the margin and the carp does a desperate lunge from the net, I just hold the rod, it bends almost to the butt without giving line, it stops the fish and the rod slowly straightens bringing the fish back to the net.
Fast taper and ultra fast taper rods are specialist tools, designed for putting leads and heavy weights a long distance and not so much for playing fish. Also hook pulls are a rarity with a through action with the rod so forgiving.
Basically, you need to look for a through action rod if you want a good playing action and take a different direction from what the manufacturers seem to think what we need along with "Beachcaster ringing" which also affects the playing action of a rod by the line not following the natural curvature of the bent rid but instead cutting across the arcs of the curvature.
