Hi all

Anyone had any experience of soundproofing an outbuilding. Irs 8'8 x 35' , low ceiling, brick built.

Any advice welcome. Prices, is it a job I can do myself, etc.

I've done a bit of work in recording studios with a range of sound proofing and sound deflection (those foam 'eggbox' tiles as a basic minimum)

Depends how much sound you want to kill, and how much your willing to pay really.

I've done a couple of music rooms and we basically built a room within the room, false walls and ceiling crammed with insulation, but with no contact between the false room and the original. These were rooms within houses so we used 15mm soundblock plasterboard, if it's a rehearsal space (or murder room) there is probably a better material to use as it can be really echoey inside.

Echo the room within a room - not easy, needs to be pretty much airtight. Can be expensive.

Is this for music recording?

It's half insulated and boarded and it's part of the plan to finish that job 1st. Hopefully that'll do a good basic job of limiting the sound

Looking to make a rehearsal / lesson space for singing tuition so I will probably add some of the acoustic foam tiles as in noj's link too.

Edit - rkb, it's more about keeping the sound in than restricting external noise for recording

What about one of those ping pong balls with the strap that fastens round the back of the head thingys?

i recently built a large koi pond with adjecent filter house.

the 3 pumps, 2 x air pumps kick out a bit of a drone nosie.

I then used 50mm cellotex on the walls (breeze blocks construction) and the filter house wooden roof to line it all.

Its almost silent now
