Can anyone recommend a back rest that will not, under any circumstances, allow the rod to fly out of it on the most violent of takes?
Fishing fairly well locked up yesterday, up against a weed bed and pads about 20 yards out and sitting very close to my rods, got a take - beep on the alarm, rod bent over and then before I knew it the rod had been pulled off of the rest. The only reason it didn't go in is because the reel got stuck behind the front bars.
I use the original Solar backrests at their tightest setting, with duplon rod handles.
Never had this happen before in 15 years of using these rests but the whole episode has got me thinking. Any suggestions welcomed.

ise what you've got now and pair them with a jag rod locker, or a jag lock down and jag rod locker...the rods not going anywhere with that combination

Just stick a bankstick by the side of your reel, and tuck the reel handle behind it. Nothing is moving then

i just bought some new direction magnetic buttrests having had my rod towed round a lake at the weekend

Sorry to disappoint you but they won't help. I have a set and while they are decent enough for general use, anything even remotely locked up and they will fail. The magnets aren't very strong
