Yyep, can't wait. But, there's going to be a mini heatwave round here, followed by some rain over the weekend. Might be better to wait a few days and see. I'm laid up at the moment, so can't go just yet anyway, torture.

Start of the season too, people will be raring to go
Not good fishing weather really, probably stand the best chance on a night
I will be doing a bit on the rivers too this year, find myself a bit of peace and quite away from the carp clowns

Snap! I was in my in my local River fluff chucking for the Trout a few weeks back, and I noticed a few swirls to my left, stayed perfectly still and two 20 + wild Commons were swimming inches away from my legs between me and the weed beds. Have spotted them numerous times now since. Hard to decide now thou whether to use a bit of skill and try and outwit them on the Fly or Camp out the odd night for them with bait

Used to fish the itchen in Southampton had some crackers out nothing big upto 18lb and a surprise 22lb pike on a boilie,they are full of surprises like canals.

Been carp fishing 40 years went over to rivers 5 years ago I think they are a waste of time tbh been waiting 3 months to go with this outdated close season now advise is best to wait till after heatwave then every man and his dog are out there be better to join a little club lake that's what I have done fish all year round peace and quiet

I'll be on the tidal Trent Sun-Tues, couldn't make tonight which is a shame but the weather looks better fishing wise for the weekend anyway.
Had a couple of Carp whilst Barbel fishing over the last few years, had a mid double nice dark common on opening day last season.

Yeah definitely, normally do try nights as boats are a pain during the day!

Yeah I do know what you mean. I'm also planning on joing my first club this year. One I'm looking at has a bit of river as well I think! So could be a winner

Good luck to anyone out there tonight, always used to to the midnight thing but my local stretch of Thames is far from the idyllic Berkshire stretches of my youth.

As you've been an angler for that long, saying rivers are a waste of time because of the close season surprises me tbh. Plenty of species and bodies of water to go at in the close. Go the river when condition's are right, go somewhere else when they're not.
Got a lovely pub booked for Tuesday til Friday in Bewdley. Rivers low, bit of rain before then should have
the run off conditions perfect.
Tight lines if you're out

Been fishing 57 years and only fished lakes until 5 years ago thought about fishing rivers
The close season was started in the 1800s it was about the salmon I've been told it's was the lord's wanted 3 months to fish for salmon without the common people there I am happy to be wrong if true needs updating close may 1st till June 16th as you get older you are aware of time and don't want to waste it
you are lucky to get 3 months fishing where I go come mid September all the leaves cling round your line there like footballs makes it unfishable and the pollution and otters have destroyed the water What with the paddle boarders dogs swimmers boats kayaks its a circus

You only get leaves and crud coming down river shortly after rain, no river is like it all the time from September onwards
Just fish other waters during the close season, literally everything is open apart from rivers so would would the time be wasted?

I used to do this,close season fish the lake near the river in Southampton then onto river opening day but I did fish river as much as I possibly could,Even through the winter and caught coldest was-5 in January and had a lively 14lb mirror very welcome in the cold.
Ii used to take my dogs down the river in close season and you'd be surprised how many people were still fishing yeah some were esst Europeans but some were English.
