Asking for a mate who's not on here.
He's after a small non-dslr camera with a flip screen for self takes. Would love to hear any recommendations. I used to have an old G6 that was brilliant but use a mirrorless dslr now myself. He doesn't want the hassle of earning settings etc and just wants a point and click with a timer and flip screen.
Any suggestions?

It's not what you are asking for but I used small compact flip screen cameras and used an air bulb release system to fire the shutter button.
It's simple to set up and give excellent control, allowing the button to be half pressed to illuminate the focus assist beam on my canon a630 to provide enough background light to see that me and the fish are presented in frame correctly before committing to taking the shot.

Also used a Canon G6 for years until relatively recently - since then have been using a Panasonic Lumix G7 and its a great bit of kit if you can source a decent one 2nd hand. (I picked mine up from London Camera Exchange for £280)
Compact (micro 4/3rds) mirrorless, wide lens, decent sized fully articulated flip screen (with touch functionality) and with built in timelapse (intervalometer) and all sorts of other functions that you'll probably never use.
Really simple to operate - multiple jog dials for quick access to the primary functions - mine is set to auto on the right dial and timelapse (pre set to 3sec intervals and a 20x shot limit) on the left dial - once set up just press the shutter and you're away. Has a post focus function where you can crispen up blurry areas and visa versa to create depth of field etc
If you need to 'fiddle' you can mess with the functionality on the touch screen in front of you (fish side) without having to return to the camera (bracketing / white balance / iso etc) - also has wifi so you can link to smartphone via the Panasonic app to transfer images and or completely control the camera with your phone . . .

Looking for a point n'click with flip screen and remote myself as well. Used to have a Canon Eos 600D but got rid as had far too many settings for what i needed. Started to use my iPhone for shots but find the quality is nowhere near a decent camera.

I currently have a Sony HX90 as I had the same requirements as you. Had it for a few years now and still really like it. Not overly complicated, decent flip screen and has the benefit of NFC so easy to transfer images to my phone and laptop. I pair it with a (relatively) cheap wireless remote I got from Amazon and they work very well together

Yep. Had it a few years so there is probably a newer version but it does the job nicely for me

Been having a look but seems to be discontinued. Few second hand on Ebay that i'll have a look at. Does look a very nice camera, small as well. Can you remember what you paid for it new?

All cameras generally have a mount for tripods (its a small threaded socket in the underside) - make sure your tripod has a quick release mechanism and mounting plate included so you can leave the tripod out but remove the camera when it rains etc
No knowledge of the Sony Camera but would say that an intervalometer (either integrated or plug in) is your best friend for total handsfree fishy pics - takes the aggro out of using old skool bulb releases with your knee / having to hold a remote whilst holding a slippery fish / daft verbal whistles and wink commands (mobile phones) . . .

I managed to find a photo of the underside and saw the socket. I just used a bankstick with the converter with my old canon and then got an iPhone holder for my phone.

Watching this with interest, as I'm currently still using a Canon G6, but want to downsize if possible to something more compact, without the need for an infra red remote. Obviously still need the flip round screen function though.
