Just out of interest, I was looking through the list of syndicate waters under the control of Korda, Embryo Angling.
They now have 16 waters, two rota's (weekend rota and a weekday rota) on each, you can only fish for 72 hours maximum each visit though. All except one has thirty pound carp present and a good few have forties. What an amazing amount of lakes with good fish, none of them are over expensive, in fact most seem very good value for money, a fantastic achievement in a short amount of time.
However, the bad news is, every single syndicate has a waiting list for both rotas and most of the waiting list's are now closed, it just does show you how many people are chasing carp these days.
I suppose it's down to how successful Embryo Angling has become.

As well as the reasons you state, I think the demand is also down to the reason Embryo was created: Predation.
Loads of waters that can't/won't be fenced being decimated and lots of displaced anglers looking for somewhere fenced. Nobody wants to fish for ghosts at the end of the day.
I have to agree with you though, they've done an incredibly job rescuing and protecting lakes that would have otherwise been lost to angling through one means or another.

I dont particularly like the rota they use, if they are both full then it would appear there will be angling pressure on them all the time? Not my cup of tea, but as you say reasonably well priced.

As was mentioned on another thread, if these type of fisheries are purpose built commercial fisheries with the intention of having consistent angling pressure then the fish know nothing else other than just keep to keep moving around and eating whatever is in front of them. I wouldn't see it as an issue.

Imagine getting black balled from 16 waters because you had a tiff with one bailiff on one water
I think waiting lists are now at their highest due to people having to stick their name down on so many due to the uptake of carp anglers during covid. It was the toilet roll effect. Personally, I didn't see a massive increase, however I believe more places could introduce winter tickets, especially for pike anglers who have no interest in joining the water for it's population of cyprinids, or wish to fish the club section of river of which that club has the angling rights for. I wish all rivers were completely government owned and not used as a "portfolio water" for the controlling club, but that's a different story.

Now I'm lucky enough to get time off during the week, and generally go on a Sunday night or Monday night, as nearly everywhere I've fished these have been predominantly the quieter times to fish. But having a dedicated weekend rota, and a dedicated weekday rota you could in theory turn up on a Saturday and find it packed, and say turn up on a Tuesday and find it packed.

I bet that many of the waiting lists will have the same names on, scatter gun approach to see which one come first.
Its the same reason you cant get a cab at 3am on a saturday night because some idiots call five taxi firms and then see which comes first.

Guess that's why they charge a non refundable deposit of £40 per lake to go on the waiting list, a lot of money if your names on a few lakes.

Many predicted what was going to happen (Myself in 2012) it just goes to show just how efficient a predator Otter's are, and just how easy a prey Carp are in the winter months.
It's a dammed shame, but there's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it other than get a Fence up fast, I really hope Embryo become the catalyst for others to take action before the inevitable happens.

It is a shame Keith,so many waters unnecessarily damaged and ruined
As you rightly say, a lot of people tried to get the word out, about these super efficient apex predator, killing machines,sadly those who tried felt extreme frustration tyring to pass on what was going to happen,especially when being disbelieved or decried,
Never mind, it's too late in some ways...
Lots of people fishing for carp,not enough waters,not enough fenced waters..
Those free n easy times of just finding a predation free,unfenced water are getting less and less..

That's good to know Andy .
A few have been down here as well,but still many that haven't, it's to do with the holiday trade,most fisheries now are tied up in accommodation, so it's an after thought the fishing in many ways,not all of course ,but most I reckon..

I'm a member of two embryo syndicates, both a few minutes from my house.
One of them has two lakes and is only a couple of years old. I've probably only done a dozen nights since joining and I think the most people I've seen is 3 other anglers over both lakes (16 swims ish). Most of the nights have been work overnighters mid week and three times I've been the only one fishing. I'm dropping this ticket.
The other syndicate has been Embryo for I think 6-7 years. I'm just about to renew my weekend ticket for forth year. This lake has 11 swims. I've only ever seen it full twice in the last three seasons. There's usually 4-5 people on during the summer, sometimes more, sometimes less. It's a lovely lake, nice fish, good bayliffs and members. I'll be keeping this ticket for as long as I can. I had to wait about a year for this ticket.
If all of the Embryo waters are as well run and nice to fish I'd imagine the waiting lists will be there for quite some time.
