for about 30 years I never saw an EA bailiff, but have seen and been questioned by 3 in the last 18 months on a variety of waters which is an encouraging development IMO.

Why do they need to have a special operation to what they should be doing anyway.
Ive never been asked for my license yet.
My dad has only been checked once, and he was fishing a usually unfished drain in lincolnshire, miles from civilisation, never seen a single person there even just walking. And a guy came and asked to see his rod lisence

I've been checked once. It was 1st April several years ago now. I'd not renewed it (genuinely slipped my mind) so effectively I was checked on the one day in the last 25 years+ I was fishing without a license
Luckily the guy that checked could see my history of purchasing licenses on his ipad thingy so just let me buy one there and then by phone and let me off.

I have been checked twice,my nephew got caught without a licence.He had genuinely forgot as he was serving in the RAF at the time,the officer was brilliant about it and let him buy one on the bank

In total 13 people caught without a rod license in what I guess is about 3 weeks work?
What they need to do is clampdown on is people illegally taking fish for the table, but that takes a certain type of officer with the bottle to take on some of those types.

What makes me laugh is the EA dude. Looks like he has come straight off the battlefield from the middle east missing an SA80. The absolute state of it.
I do buy a license every year.

There is a multi force group set up where i live, (Burton on Trent) that is pretty pro active on the Trent and they have been catching a few poachers which is good too see.

Not the fault of the guys on the bank, like every service its grossly under funded. Been checked once since I was sixteen. That's 50 years ago and I have fished regularly all that time. Must admit the full combat gear seems a bit extreme.
Only been checked once,funnily enough by my neighbour who used to work for the NRA,..We had a right laugh about it. That's how long ago it was.
