I'm thinking about buying this camera, I like the idea of shooting in 4K video mode on the flip screen and then selecting the frame shot later. Does anyone have this camera or shoot in this way?
The other camera I was looking at - Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX90 again flip screen with smile detection???

Great camera. Just get a cheapo intervalometer. They all do the same thing.

All bought love the camera! Bought a remote shutter release for £15 confused about what settings to use ie exposure and interval time for a decent self take. I'm using the camera at the minute in auto? I'm new to all this 🤣 any help would be really appreciated!

That's good, I thought you'd bought the wrong thing when you said shutter release

For the interval time, get the camera in the cold and let it acclimatise slowly, then in the dark set an interval of 5 seconds and test whether the flash will keep up and fire on all shots. the flash recharge will be the limiting factor for the interval so its good to test it in the cold when it will be slower, and dark as the flash will have to draw more power.

There's loads of tips for other settings on the forum if you search.

It's a good camera so look after it, get a decent case, bung any silica gel sachets you find in packaging in the bag, and when you come in from the cold, leave it sealed in the bag for at least a couple of hours to acclimatise. Cold glass in a warm environment = condensation, definitely not what you want inside your camera

You should be able to leave the exposure setting blank so the camera controls that. 1/60th would be about the slowest for a catch shot.

10 shots is a good starting point
If you find it a struggle with the fish under a bit of time pressure, you can get an extension cord for the intervalometer to have the buttons right next to the matt. I can't remember if it 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack but i got a 5m cord for about a fiver

I'm not stepping on Duggs toes, as he knows way more than me. but I will jump in on this LOL. Sod 10 shots. Set it to 100 if you like.

I press the button. then wander in front of the camera, sort the fish, fumble a few times, realize my knee is on a rock. or that I'm at an angle etc. or something else isn't right. Another plus is you get some fun shots. And very occasionally a great shot if you are getting the fish out of a retainer etc.

I get annoyed if I haven't stopped it after 4 shots at night anyway, I enjoy moaning about unnecessary lights too much to keep firing the flash when I've got a few shots already. The buttons next to the mat helps as you just press it when your ready to lift, 5 second delay 5 shots, 7sec interval. If the fish doesn't play ball just press it again when it's calmed down.

It wasn't long ago I was asking you tons of newbie questions

. . .agree with that. Just keep snapping at 2 sec intervals until you've got what you believe are enough . . .obvs not too long with a fish out of water! Once you've finished, disable the intervalometer and return your fish / put it in the retainer. Quickly review your graffs and once you're happy return the fish / re-bait and cast out to the succesfull spot. . .then return to your camera and either delete the rest at your leisure on the bank or at home . . .

You'll be amazed at how many duff / daft facial expressions / looking in the wrong direction / fish flaps shots you'll take. Out of 10-15 I usually get 2-3 max I'm happy with - thats usually more than enough

If you can get your head round manual flash that helps with the facial expressions, most people will blink or squint at the pre-flash ttl shot, and then the main shot catches you with your face contorting as you react to the first one.
Having the red eye reduction on helps a bit if manual flash is a step too far

Personally I would have a bit more time between shots, I do 5 secs, just let's the camera refocus/ recharge flash etc if needs be,

Get loads of practice without the fish, which means it's second nature when you do get one, some great advice from Duggs, like he said we all have to learn, so keep asking questions
