I made Pete B's mix last year and had great results this time I'm looking to roll a larger quantity of Pete's mix but I'm stuck with the high cost of belachan for a 100kg approx. of Pete's mix the cost of the 10kg of belachan required at the best price I can find is £90 I cant help thinking I could use a better ingredient in its place that you can get bulk discounts on? or does anyone know a wholesaler of belachan? (best price I've found is £2.25/250g)

many thanks.

Might be worth contacting Wing Yip or similar and ask about buying by the case and see if they can discount for bulk?
You could also reduce the amount in the bait if your feeding a lot of bait?

At 100mil per kilo the bacarel shrimp is £12 cheaper than the equivalent amount of belachan. A worthwhile saving and it's much easier to use. 5l will do you 50kg of basemix.

What is it though, is this a liquid in which case the belachan has been thinned down?

That the shrimp has been treated with enzymes. The protein has been partially broken down into its core components, ie dipeptides and amino acids.
The process requires water, hence the term 'hydro'.

Any of you guys used their shrimp liquid yet, out of interest, how are you getting on with it?

I started on it last year, along with their shrimp powder. Can't say it's a stinker anything like Belchan so the OP might be disappointed? So far I have come to the conclusion the bream in one of my waters love it, 100%

Yes, used it last autumn. Impressed with it, 7 thirties in the space of 6 weeks. I think it brings a fair bit to the table overall.

The tech info is all on their site. PH reduced to kill and harmful pathogens and then hydrolysed so thst 90%+ of the proteins are hydrolyzed.

JB does a Hydro Shrimp it's a bit dearer than Barcarel they sell 600gms JB sells it at 500gms, quality and freshness should be good given his reputation for both.
