Hi all im having problems with my shockleader knot slipping on my spod rod, im using a back to back grinner knot with braided mainline to my braided shockleader, in my hands the knot looks and feels perfect no matter how much force I tug on it, but slips after a few casts of the spod I think this is down to friction when going through the rings any ideas how to stop this from happening??

Use a mahin knot, leave both tag ends long and give it a few casts, slowly building up the weight and distance. Then trim after.

Never had an issue with back to back grinner either, 5 turns each as similar thickness lines to be joined. Just looked up the Mahin knot, will have a practise to have another option just in case 👍

Agreed, the mahin knot is the best for joining 2 braids. Also nicknamed the carrot knot as it tapers well creating less friction as it goes through the eyes. Also you don't get that horrible rattle that the more bulbous back to back grinner produces so it is better all round.

Mahin knot is 100%
If going braid to braid with a 'slippy' braid, something like whiplash, i add a single overhand knot in the tag end of the mainline end close to the finished knot after it has been pulled tight.
Wrap both braids around something to use as a puller to save the fingers and steady hard pulling will cause the mainline to slip slowly through the knot and as the overhand knot pulls up against the knot it becomes solid and will then never slip.

I'm also a big fan of the Mahin knot for braid-braid shocky. Easy to tie too.

If it needs another knot to stop it slipping it's not 100%

I tied the mahin with some smooth (slippy) braid mainline and it repeatedly slipped as i gave it a serious strength test, and the extra overhand knot cured the issue and makes it 100% reliable.
It really isnt me not tying it correctly.

I didn't say you hadn't
For braids with a slight coating I run the part going to be knotted through my nails removing that coating. Never had 1 slip on me yet, when tied correctly. Unfortunately with this knot there is plenty of room for user error and I've definitely been there
