My last few trips have been slightly 'spoilt' by groups of 'anglers' chatting/drinking etc late into the night. It seems to be a new thing on my water,having had the lake almost exclusively to myself the previous couple of yrs. Anyone else noticed an increase in social fishing this year?

Honest answer is I've seen it getting more and more since 2008.
When I joined Nazeing most anglers communicated, but fished individually, every year the socialising and drinking got more and more.

Yep, its not for me, people being civil, having a chat, exchange of views etc, absolutely fine.
But groups huddled together, drinking and getting louder and louder till the early hours, seems to be the norm for some. Go to the pub ffs.

It is probably something do with lockdown and a way for friends to meet up.The secondhand market will be swamped next year when people sell up.

It is what carp fishing is to so many now, Lockdown is by no means the only catalyst for this, the drive for bigger bivvys, bankside power, films etc etc for me just shows the fishing part is only an element of the lakeside enjoyment.

It's been going on for years mate.
We used to do it when we were younger night fishing the Thames. Yes we did clear up after ourselves... Granted didn't have internet or TV but used to take our cassettes to play. Not very loud tbh
Now I'm just happy with a small group no more than 4 of us.
One bottle of red wine between us a couple of cans in the afternoon and I do mean a couple that's it.
I'm getting too old...

90 per cent of my fishing is solo. It's an escape for me and I'd rather listen to nature than annoy people with constant chatter.
Occasionally fish with two other lads and it's good company but we always stay respectful of others on the water. Simple manners really.
We can't have a thriving pastime without good numbers engaging with it, so I have a live and let live approach so long as people aren't being abusive or dangerous.

Good point. I suppose people can choose to read my annoying chatter or not so it's their own fault!
Imagine if I turned up on your lake with my ghetto blaster and 90's metal compilation. ... worst nightmare come true!

Interesting one this. I go with my mate when I can. It's a bit different for me since I can't get out much, but I managed to get my best mate in to my club about 5 years ago and he goes more than I do but when we can get out together even if a quick day session then we'll always look for a double peg or two pegs very close together so we can have a bit of a natter and if either of us need some help with a net then that works too.
Love going obviously even if alone but it's better if my mate comes along and we can catch up, talk about the water, tactics etc, just much more enjoyable personally.
However neither of us sit there getting plastered and being loud that's not what it's about for me.
Just my two penneth worth on the matter.

I get all sides as I've done the party thing on the bank with a few mates and loads of beer, BBQ and god knows what else 😬😬🤧🤧.
Looking back though on this time (15 years ago) there is no wonder I caught nothing as I was camping really and not fishing. It was fun though and we always tried to respect other anglers.
After a break for 10 years when I go back to fishing I'm looking forward to actually fishing and hopefully catching more fish and enjoying the piece and quiet.
