Do you think that there will ever be a time when Cassien allows night fishing again?? Why was it stopped in the first place, was it due to the fire risk from camping?

Nope they'll never let night fishing again.

Basically the locals as well as the rowing club members complained about people camping for weeks, months and making the place a bloody mess. They also didn't appreciate guides stitching up swims for their clients.
My first trip to Cassien was 85. It unfortunately changed like most great public French lakes.

Anglers have always bent the rules on Cassien.
Back in the late 80s early 90s Night fishing was very blatant .
I'm honestly not sure what the consequences are if you get caught. Many years ago the penalties were anything from fines to having your gear confiscated and sent to Paris for collection.

A shame really because it's only going to make the situation worse. The French authorities will only stand for so much.

Apparently they had written permission from the French authorities for filming the episode, who knows?

Greasing the palm of the local mayor probably helped with that. 😉

If that is true, It's a shame, as spoils it for the rule abiding anglers.

Just show's things that people do off camera, catch at all costs, to look good on camera.

Yup. Pal of mine was down there at the time. Goes every year around April. He was horrified. First 3 point swims up the west arm stitched up. Loads of bivvys in each swim, never moved out the swims. My pal boated up the west very early morning and they were all clearly fishing. He spoke to some local French lads who had caught one of the Terrible trio fishing in the out of bounds. They were pretty peeved as you can imagine. Just not on in my book.

Free to fish mate, you just need a carte de peche (bit like our rod licence)
Can get this online or in many post offices or tabac

32 euros for a week or 96 per year I think

Allows you to fish any public waters - just make sure you select the correct department
