Has anyone else seen this footage?
I was actually shocked... literally really shocked at how long that fish was kept out of the water!!
Maybe I'm wrong but that seemed like too long... No disrespect to Jon Mac by the way as I'm sure he was caught up in the moment.
Leads on to my next question... how long should carp be kept out of the water? I was always tought and have always practiced as little as possible....

I saw it when it came out.
I'm amazed it took so long for a thread to pop up tbh, I was expecting it much sooner.
@Pooter, in this case I don't think we can say it's a fame thing. I believe it was Jonny Mac that dubbed the BM the no pain, no gain, no fame fish. He didn't publicise the capture and didn't release any shots. He genuinely kept it pretty quiet IIRC (unlike your Tels and Laneys). I'm quite surprised Elliot managed to get the footage off him, even all these years later.

Yeah but surely the longer the more stressful it is for the fish, and when the fish is old that is never a good thing. Even if it swims off who knows how much effect the experience will have on its longevity.

I havent seen the footage of the BM so cannot comment however as to how long they can survive out of water I once had a tank with a number of 5-7 inch carp in it. Last time I was in the room with the tank in it was 11.00pm on satraday night, rentered the room at 3.30 Sunday morning (up early to go fishing) and saw a carp on the floor lookingvery 'dry'. thinking the fish had jumped out sometime during the night I went to pick it up thinking it was dead when it flicked its tail clearly still alive! I put it back into the tank where it went on to thrive and gre on to approx 8lb im my garden pond.
Not sure how long it was out of the water maximum four hours but could have been 30 minutes.

I also watched this the other night (on my friends account) as I wouldn't buy it as most of it is rubbish in my opinion. Anyway... Watching the BM footage I was actually getting agitated watching it. Genuinely made me feel uncomfortable watching it! Far to long to be keeping a fish out, especially in direct sun light like on the video. Kept putting it down waiting for cloud to pass over the sun. When he did put it back I fully expected to see it Bob up on the surface!
