As above i needed to reproof a 2 rib bivvy,that even though stated at 10,000 fabric has only been used for 8 day sesions and was leaking all over , no waterproofing,at all now,acts like drips through cotton t shirt, so ive used 3 coats of non gold fabsil, but havent tested yet and have no idea ,howvlong it lasts?, hope it works

hi to below posts its a vision kenuick quick rib- jim shelleys one?, the 2 rib bivvy rated at 10,000 hh, its 2-3 years old but only had very small bank time, stored dry , i think being stored for 2 years has sent it funny,
its no aqua or trakker, but hey there all made in the same china factorys, so should have been ok, only thing that might have made its coating go to poo, is i was under a big tree in the rain and after just 10 mins after set up, it was dripping all over the underside, onto my bloomin chair and all my stuff ,while getting rods sorted, i presume its made worse by the bigger drips of the tree hitting it if you will

You're 100% sure it's not condensation yes?
You can buy a new Vision 2 rib shelter for 70 quid so don't go mental on the Fabsil - you'll spend more on that than the bivvy is worth mate.

agreed,might of been better to just get another 2 rib of jrc or someone,anyway, also the fabsil even though it seems to be the holly grail of go to waterproofing, i did my chair and unhooking mat at the same time 3 coats,after posting this - i thought ill just pour a little water over my mat,
straight through into it, could see the wet colour change, it defo did no waterproofing on my matt, nothing on my unhooking matt, hope my bivvy is ok

You do realise you cant waterproof every fabric? Only those with a tight weave / mesh?
Mats and chairs are not designed to resist water so the weave is quite loose, wont matter how much fabsil you pour onto them. It would be like trying to waterproof a tennis racket or Colander.
Plus, higher wearing surfaces like a chair, the fabsil wouldnt last too long.
I waterproofed an Armo MK3 and it helped, it wasnt that only but i never used a second skin.

When I did my brolly last, it wasn't because it was leaking but was getting 'heavy' during a storm as the water was clinging to it, probably not helped by a bit of 'spod spill' on it either. Afterwards it really was like a ducks back and a quick flick was enough to put it away dry.

Would you do a brand new bivvy to act as a barrier. Like ceramic coating or waxing a new car.

Dont waste your time bud.
Condensation is formed by temperature differences. Unless you dont plan on breathing all night you are going to get it.
Sleep with your door open, and vents open. It does help.

It's more likely to make the condensation worse as the material wont be able to breathe as it were , thats always been my experience of Fabsiling bivvys anyway.
Best way to help with condensation is use twin skins and leave the door open abit to help even out the outside/inside temps

I just cannot believe the amount of people that totally unnecessarily !! Fabsil bivvies ?
I have a few bivvies some are over 10 years old and have never needed reproofing ! most of the time its condensation dripping unless you have damaged it in some way
like for instance its delaminated and thats normally quite evident it looks like a used durex hanging from the roof
the other common thing is simply DIRT a simple wash with a brush and plain warm water will most times restore the beading properties

I've never treated a bivvy either, got a 10 year old M3 that is still watertight, water doesn't bead on it like it did when new but it doesn't leak

Likewise, I treat my waterproofs but never a shelter.
I can imagine treating a shelter may extend its life but I treat my brollies like crap anyway..... I'll patch them up where I rip them but if I can get four or five years out of each one I'm more than happy. Never had one lose its waterproof qualities other than rips but Fabsil aint gonna help there.
