I'm on the lookout for a new set of rods and would appreciate your recommendations. I'm aiming to spend around £350 per rod. Currently, Im casting about 110 yards on my current water. I've considered the Daiwa Infinity or a second-hand set of Kizen Platinum but I'm open to other suggestions and advice.

I've got the 12' Infinity's the DF version, couldn't be happier with them, casts a 4½ oz bag 120 yards with ease, but great playing action - lightest proper rod I've ever had.. highly recommend

Thanks, what TC do you have? I currently have the longbows in 3-1/4 lovely rods but I need something with alittle bit more power

For 350 per rod and willing to buy second hand you'll get a nice set of Harrison's

3¾TC, nice playing rods, not too stiff, but enough in them to blast a bag a loooong way - would recommend

Harrison Aviator 12'6" casts well and nice to play fish on.

Also worth noting 13' rods of popular 12' tcs might be completely different animals, as I found with the 13' Torrix in 3.25lb, the extra length will also aid casting.

Thanks for the reply's, my heads blown, after looking at the Harrison's then the free spirt both sound really good rods but I'm starting to think I pay that extra big of money and get a set of custom rods, are they worth waiting for or are the shop bought ones just the same?

Use someone like Mark Tunley and not only can you choose your own rings, reel seats, whippings etc but you will get a superbly finished rod. With a quality Harrison blank it should be a rod for life.

I've just put up a short review for Mark yesterday after collecting 7 newly built rods from him again.

The joys of custom, you get them how you want them not how the mass market gets them. To some that's a bonus.

While I agree to a certain extent re custom (my rods are), you might also be opening up a minefield if you don't know what you want. If you do and it's for a specific application you might well be recommended a different build/ringing.

However, don't look past shop offerings. Not sure if it's still the case but Harrisons used to make the shop builds in house and the finish is very good. The rods will most likely be rung to the optimum for that blank, though not necessarily.

Custom build, choose someone near you as if you have a problem (like I did) you'll not want to be posting back!

I am having some made but didn't really know
what extras to ask for apart from eyes that are better for braid and a better reel seat.
Price is about the same as in the shops.

I have just bought these. Gaining a good reputation in the industry and a friend uses them and says best rod he has used. Cast well and playing action also very good, his words and he has used a lot of top end ones. First time using next friday for a couple nights.

Other than the factory 'legacy' builds, Johnson Ross 'stock Harrisons' (eg Raven / Black / New Olive Editions) are unique to JR but are all Harrison factory builds . . .quality is great and you can also pimp them (with different bits) when ordering . . .which suits my OCD perfectly!
On this basis they are 'semi-custom' . . .interest free £ and without the agg / wait etc
