In the old days, I used to have some army winter trousers that were reversible (green/tan) and quilted. From memory, the zips either went all the way up the side or most of the way. Think they were snugpak

They were mega warm and cheap as chips.

Are these still a thing and available today? The internet has thrown up hundreds of adverts/options and I've not really got the patience to try a load of them before I find the right ones?

Don't want to spend a fortune either.

Snugpak still do the Parallax trousers with the zip all the way up but not reversible as far as I know. Retail at about 140 nowadays. They do reversible salopettes at 160 odd.

Loads of options available on the Military Surplus sites, I got a couple of pairs of German quilted ones a few years back - new Old Stock , £2.50 per pair!

warm as toast with just Gortex over them.

Not sure if you've tried salopettes before, but if not might be worth trying- makes a big difference covering your lower back - I use the snugpak ones, and if its really wet just use waterproof over-trousers with them. Same with the top - I use an SJ9 and waterproof layer on top (currently the Aqua ones as I got a bit of a bargain) - but any Gortex type waterproof membrane will do

Yeah I remember they aren't great when they get wet end up weighing three times as much dry. Probably why all these fancy brands are on the market now 😂

My coats three quarter length so my backs covered and it's an absolute pita going for a pee with salopetes on

Worth keeping an eye out on Facebook marketplace searching gortex, there are some superb motorcycle trousers that are spot on. I got some olive triumph ones that have reinforced arse and knees, they actually had plastic protectors that zipped out and are the warmest, most waterproof over trousers I've ever owned.

Never got mine wet, they are designed to wear under Gortex to keep you warm and dry.

As I've posed in the past - the trendy expensive branded fishing versions are purely made for profit, the military stuff is made to keep someone alive.

They're either Snugpak or Buffalo, can't remember which.

The zip goes right around too, almost certainly enough for a curl out, but I haven't tested that particular crapticality.

Its the buffalo ones that have the zip crutch all the way round- brilliant bit of kit had to sell mine as were too small sadly

Ive gone back to the snugpak ones which are good but the buffalo are another level
