Anyone know of any retractable 10ft 3.5 that's not bad to play fish on apart from scopes I know 12ft would be better but I like the compact size of retractables

Short retractable rods don't really lend themselves to have a nice through action, especially higher TC ones

Nash Dwarf Shrink 10ft 3.5lb will be one of the softest.

The softest I've used was the Cotswold Pace Compacts, I found those 3.5tc very soft.

Sonik makes a 12ft retractable. They're not that good IMO, I have the 3.5lb which I moved to from a 3.5lb 9ft scope, and they're much nicer to play fish on, I just find the blank a little bit....dull. if that's a way to describe it. Not very crisp. But they fit in a 10ft scope style rod sleeve

I think the scope blanks are fantastic, and I really wish they would bring out a 12ft version.

Because I have other tc s I want to be able to cast further without buying 12fts and wouldn't be interested in scopes

What about a 2.75 retractable rod? It will be softer than a 3.5.

3/4 of a lb softer in fact

Agree, I have a set for boat piking, great for casting BIG deads. Lovely action.

As I've said I have other tc s I have 2.75 and 3llb I want a higher tc to cast further without buying 12fts

Higher TC doesn't automatically mean casting further. By insisting on using shorter rods you are restricting your range, potentially substantially

Is it the transport size of the retractables that you prefer or actually fishing with shorter rods?

As mentioned the 12ft Sonik recons, insurgent or xtractor, pack down the same as a 10ft retractable so would tick one of the boxes above. You probably wouldn't need to go to 3.5 to get your extra distance either & it would then maintain a better level of feel during the fight.

But sonik rods are not sof att all

Think custom build is the best choice and then 7 rings.

How far do you need to cast?

As has been said, tc wont necessarily help you cast further. Action is more important (within reason) and length is 100 times more important than tc for distance

If you insist on short rods, higher tc but still soft (3.5 is 3.5) then avoid sonik. They are really stiff

I've got the Insurgents in 9ft 3.25 and I wouldn't say they are stiff at all, they have a lovely action for a 9ft rod.
