I'm sure aqua baits do a bait based round the old Nutrabaits Enervite with Mexican onion oil. I bet that one's a bit of a pokey...

I was going to say Mexican Onion Oil, very pungent....and a possible cross over....
Must be near 20 years ago a lad did very well on a syndicate I was on which was Nutrabaits dominated. He used iirc Quality Baits Patshull Park mix with Mexican Onion Oil, might even have had Asafoetida or fenugreek in it too, cant quite remember.
Anyway, said mix did very well on is it the Kingsbury Water Park waters, was a bit of a standout bait at the time, he was doing something right.
Lee Walton might remember more than me on that 1 or you could give QB a call, or msg Bill Cottam.
Edit, I haven't been to QB for a very long time but they used to do a bait rolling service, I used it. Iirc, the lad who rolled for them also went into business for himself, can't remember the names, I'm sure someone on here knows I seem to remember.
Edit 2, Secret Agent Flavour might be a consideration

I know Jason actually recommends putting “real” onions in bait.
When you think about it, loads of food starts with onion, garlic, salt and pepper as a base. Why would it be anything different for, lots of species? Ticks a lot of boxes

Exactly, i was in france a week or so ago and thee lake bait was a bait called crazy onion which is made in Belgium, it was so pungent! Got me thinking, not seen an option of this flavour bait in the UK, hence the question. The bait is very successful by all accounts and as stated, onion, garlic, salt etc are all solid additives.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback all, ive ordered some samples of the aquabaits boilies.

I like the combo of fenugreek and onion. Did me good in the past.
25 gram of each on a sweet nut based mix was an awesome combo.

Just want to add to this I found a box of essential oils in my room from a competition I won out of big carp magazine a few years ago and in it was onion oil, black pepper oil and red thyme....so I found a pot and put in a few pop ups including slk ones(darker than others)and added a few drops of onion and few drops of black pepper shook them a few times and left them to stew, well I went fishing this week and had a 27 out on a normal S7 pop up and thought I'll try one out my tub and it was a slk 15mm and stank a lot of onion & black pepper and I had a 17.4 common out.
Definitely food for thought

Those are some highly potent pop ups. I'm saying that as I used to use Clove EO in my banana baits, 2-3 drop in a 6 egg was the rec and I only used 2 and it still came through.

I think you'll find that it's onion puree that Jason rates highly rather than raw onion.
I remember saying to Jason that back in the 70's and 80's my favourite bait additive was HP Fruity Sauce, straight away he said "yes, yes that's based on onion puree". Perhaps I should revisit the sauce?

Isn't onion puree raw, liquidised onion?
He does actually mention it in his book.

No the onion is cooked to produce puree.
I've not got Jason's latest book, the puree thing came up in a chat and he said about the difficulty in sourcing decent quality puree.

He uses granules and powders iirc. Hard to get Geoff to sit there grating onion into his baits I'd guess 😂
Raw for the home roller. Also said about grating into ground bait.

Qualitybaits made a lot of Cheese and Onion and Cheese Garlic and Fenugreek ,a few years ago ,it lost its popularity mainly due to the extreme smell which emulated from it ,making storage and movement of it rather anti social , some was made to order and used recently in France to great success.

I Wouldn't be surprised if we see super dooper mega catching onion hookbaits in the near future.........

it makes sense. I don't regard purees in the same light a fresh purees, even if frozen straight after. Probably oxidation but they just loose their sparkle for me.
We thought it'd be a good idea to buy the frozen blocks of Garlic/Onion/Ginger puree for curry, it's not the same as fresh even if you make your own and freeze it.
