I'm old. I grew up with Kevin Maddocks telling me that any light brighter than a firefly's arse was wholly unacceptable. I still tut at searchlight head torches and nocturnal fish photography that lights up the opposite bank. But I want a light in my bivvy. Preferably with a remote, rechargeable, and hangable, but with intensity options like - really dim/dim/not so dim, whereas most seem to be more like - midday in summer/dental work/burning magnesium ribbon.
Any suggestions?

No remote but the Trakker one that doubles up as a bug zapper ticks a few boxes.

Not rechargeable and no remote but I really like using one of these, I've got the little deflector that goes with it so most of the light ends up shining into my shelter.

I remember years ago there was some sort of camping shop that used to advertise in Carp Talk and Carp World that sold torches and lamps etc, I think the fella used to have a stand at Carp Shows too, anyway I bought a hanging lantern from them that had a really nice Dull Orange colour, I can't seem to find anything like that now days.

I love my uco lantern,the citronella candles for them are good 👍. There is a camping lantern on Amazon,waterproof and rechargeable.Its made by a company called Blukar and is only £9.59

Nitecore 360 utility light. It's magnetic, so you stick it on a bivvy table and shine it across your legs to rebait rods, light the kettle etc. It won't light up the whole bivvy, but as it's 360 it'll light the areas you need.

I don't often use a bivvy light but i have used the lumi-lite once or twice under the brolly on overnighters.
The amber light mode is what i usually choose.

I don't think you can go far wrong with the Ridgemonkey bivvy lite plus. I think I got mine for £25. You can switch to red for really dim light, it also does green which on the dimmest setting is between red and white and perfect a for low level bivvy light.

The ridgemonkey on red at its lowest is pretty dim.

The light that came in my deeper chirp plus 2 gift set is really good and has different settings and is also a little power bank but not sure if you can buy it separately.

If the price doesn't bother, RidgeMonkey Vault Lite IR180 is simply top, i"m still happy with mine after 3 years, the sunblesa seems a good cheaper alternative.

Ridgemonkey Multi Lite plus - I too am a 'total darkness' advocate however this bit of kit is compact, dimmable and has multiple uses (eg flood mode for photos etc)

That little RM one does look nice ...

Just buy the components to build a remote light off Ebay, cheap as chips. Apart from the battery, you can buy one that will fit inside a small travelling toothbrush holder and velcro it to the roof of the bivvy

I used a home made one for years but got sick of it in the end.

So now, I just use a £4 light switch from Aldi's velcroed to the roof of the bivvy that is sold also in many shops and has a dimmer switch. For a red light, I just bought a small sample of red window shading film for glass off Ebay for practically next to nothing

I came to the conclusion, a remote is just a gimmick, what is the point of having a remote light, the distance that I usually have to reach for the remote is usually the same as reaching above my head to turn a light on and the light is always in the same place, the remote may not be as I may have displaced it and have to find it in the dark.
