I should be over the moon about catching a 50lb 4oz grassie along with a 36 and a 35 grassies in one session but I just cant get excited about it!
Is it just me?am I so blinkered that only king carp matter!

Not at all. You are going out targeting a certain species. If I had a 5lb tench whilst fishing for carp I would curse at it, but i would be over the moon when I'm targeting tench.

I've never caught a grassy and don't ever want too, the same goes for catfish and sturgeon, they do absolutely nothing for me.

I guess it depends on why you go fishing and what you hope to achieve. I go fishing with the intention of catching big king carp, but in all honesty it's the act of fishing rather than the result that gives me the pleasure.

I wouldn't share photos of captures with anyone but a close group of friends and have no social media, so no need for any gratification from that world. The waters I fish I'll be happy with 5 or 6 fish a year. If they were to throw up a surprise grass carp or tench I would be more than happy as all part of the fun.

However, some people are more results focussed and that's how they get their buzz, anything but the target is a sideshow. That's fine too, whatever gets you out there.

Did any of them jump out the net?

I would be over the moon with any fish of that size. grass, common, mirror, sturgeon, catfish. but each catch is different for every person. either way, congratulations mate, its one hell of a fish. Well done

Oh yes

I've only ever caught one grass carp (at 21lb) but think they are awesome looking fish. There are three in my current venue up to mid 40s and I'd love to catch one of them.

They are something different to the norm and bizzare/unique looking fish.

In my opinion they're far better looking than a fat, bloated mirror that looks like it might pop

But that's just me being a mirror carp snob!

They come in like a dead bream but then try and destroy your landing net.

I've just had a 61lb grassie that fought like a demon, and was pretty calm when it was on the bank, and when I had a water shot done with it. I was over the moon with the capture tbh.

I just slip the hook out and get them back asap these days, around 2009/10 fishing at La Horre in France I hooked the known big one it was bloody massive I think they called it Jordan it was well over 60lb at the time, anyway it was done and ready for the net my mate went to net it the fish was kissing the net cord and the hook popped out I watched it slip away slowly, my mate was gutted I wasn't bothered TBF saved destroying a net and having it shedding scales everywhere.

If you can't get excited over a 50lb fish, no matter what the species, it might be time to hang the rods up!
All of those are MASSIVE fish!

We have them, up to 50/60 in many local waters.. the wildlife stock them for weed control
I've caught them as bycatch up to nearly 50, 3x40+ in a day etc.
Horrible fish, they don't fight, except if you are daft enough to land them. They die easily in hot water conditions.

I wish you all well with them, would be happy to never see one again....

They come in like a sack of spuds and then go mental on the bank, and need cuddling in the edge for a long time to ensure they dont swim off and go belly up. Not my cup of tea at all but there are some who love catching them so each to their own.

The 1st one I caught was about 30 years ago. Didn't know the water had them in and was 8 and a half pound. I though it was a chub until I got the pics back from the lab.....

Caught a 30lb+ on my last trip and I was ecstatic to learn it was in the water. Each to their own

For some reason grassies don't fill me with excitement, no matter how big.

However, a 12lb tench on my carp gear, I would be very chuffed, although for that size tench, I would pretty much be using carp rods.

Iv just caught very similar fish although all weights were estimated. I didn't even get them out of the water , they just don't do it for me

I split 26 Grass Carp between two lakes about 5 years ago; to date not a single of has ever been caught. They are seen cruising about like torpedoes under the surface, but seem to only feed on the extreme abundance of natural food.

Would love to catch one, especially on the Fly – it's not for lack of trying! They are certainly not stupid.
