Looking for a rod builder to rebuild 3 original tench green Daiwa AKN12H, mainly just lacquer flaking on tip sections if could be redone ? They say trevs of wilmslow on them but they are the original design Nodera 1986/1987 I can't seem to get away with anything else ? Bought some Torrix 3.25 after all the hype just feel like beach casters to me ?

chris palmer formally of pottys quality leads is based in woking and is a super rod builder. Has recently just rebuilt 3 whiskers, stunning with full cork handles. Easy to find on faceache and very quick turnaround. pm me if want a tel number etc

Can recommend Dave Kelly..Trafford Angling supplies ,and formerly of Trafford Angling ,main rod and reel repair man..

He built me a lovely custom swingtip rod ,on a brand new old skool Northwestern original carbon blank .

Anyway ,give him a ring ,he's on fb ,I don't do fb ,found him on ebay ,he's got a lot of happy feedback ..

Made exactly the same mistake, replaced my battered AKNs with the torrix, what a awful blank they are.

the biggest mistake is if anyone sands the Amorphous blank`s as it buggers them up ?

You are right Gerry the strands stand up and you have to cut them off ruining the blank.Would,nt touch one with a barge pole.Best left as is.

The 12ft 3.25 torrix, too stiff and lifeless, a real plank of a blank.

Are they fully lacquered ? Ive refurbed a set of those when i did refurbs that were matt blanks so no problems with those .

Yes your spot on thats exactly what i heard
as a well known rod builder tried to refurb a m8s Akn12h rods and really screwed them up he tried to sand the blanks and you just cant do that its the way the Amorphous blank is made

I got 4 and a spare blank and wont ever touch them the few marks give em character

Those Chris palmer rods were really nice.

Had my morphs rebuilt by East Coast rod repairs, a few years back. They came back better than I could have ever expected.

Highly recomend Kevs workman ship.

If you were looking at a camo finish on your X-Lites there is a truly monstrous set on eBay at the moment

What makes people do these things to sensible blanks?!

If he is willing to do it take them .It takes an age to do armalites, etc and its very easy to fook them .

Probably how they have been built. Put a 30mm ring set and a fuji reel seat on it and I bet it would be different.
