Hi, new poster here, I've been perusing the forum for about a week, gauging opinions on brollies and brolly systems. I do the occasional overnighter and want something light, long lasting, and very easy to put up.
The Wychwood MHR caught my eye, mainly due to the guarantee but there are a few negative comments concerning quality control, so although I wouldn't discount it totally, my thoughts now are on the Tempest 100 or the Solar Undercover.
I was wondering what (if any) thoughts users had, positive and negative with regards to the above. Is one any more of a stand out compared to the other?

I had a Tempest which I loved, then switched to the Solar brolly last year, which I also love. The Tempest gives you more options with the numerous additions you can add (skull cap, skull wrap, solid front, mozzy front, overwrap, social wrap etc) but this does come at a premium. I love the build quality and simplicity of the Solar brolly and it suits my needs perfectly (typically overnighters with an occasional 2 nights) but I could not knock the Tempest either. Doesn't help your decision making, but I don't think you will go too far wrong with either of them

I have the Solar, and bought the groundsheet. Perfect for 1 or 2 nights
I have the Tempest and use it for both 1-2 nights as well as the odd week+
Very lightweight, fast setup and as said below, it can be easily made to how you need.
In summer I just use the brolly and mesh panel and then in winter I add the groundsheet with full panel and skull cap-wrap.

another vote for the SOLAR TACKLE - UNDERCOVER - BROLLY SYSTEM
the add ons are very cheap too normally the selling websites have the weight wrong its only 7kgs with front and pegs inc

Can I ask how long you had the Tempest and why you changed to the Solar? How much use did each get?

I've seen the ground sheet as an add on, bit nothing else, is there a wrap available?

No contest imho. Tempest wins. More stable and quicker set up

No not yet but Solar responds to demand and may do one at some time who knows ? its a brolly system its comes complete with a zip off front and has optional groundsheet and zip on mozzy front
but the Solar Spider compact bivvy has optionals a wrap , a front a mozzy front and zip in groundsheet as optionals and its a similar foot print to both very fast to put up and down and great lightweight fast drying material

Hi mate. Had the Tempest for about 4 years, it was the V2 and had pretty much all the add ons. My only real gripe was the lack of vents as it was like an oven in there on a warm day (the current versions have vents to solve this) so when I was looking to upgrade it was a toss of a coin between the newer Tempest or go back to a traditional brolly in the Solar. At the time the price won me over as I got the Solar brolly on an amazing deal. I like the traditional brolly, and it is quicker and easier to set up (the Tempest isn't hard but joining together 5 poles and then fanning out takes longer than putting a brolly up). The pack down is also much easier. If Solar release a magloc mozzy front (which I am constantly asking them for so hopefully it happens) it will be the perfect brolly system. The biggest positive (other than the above) in favour of the Solar is the material, it just feels that much better than the thin nylon on the Tempest, and it is till relatively light (see Gerry's comments on that)

The solar only takes a minute to set up, and I was out in 45mph winds with it last week 🤷🏻♀️

Thanks for the replies mate (and everyone else) it does sound like a really good choice considering the prices and if the build quality is as good as people say I will probably make a purchase. One final thing, I fish very large waters where the elements can really close in, has it stood the test in strong winds and driving rain?

I have a friend that fishes a LOT on the flat windswept banks of the Tidal trent no trees no bushes flat open fields all around where the wind REALLY gets up and sorts the men from the boys in shelters he said its never leaked never moved or given him any concerns
the great thing with the Solar undercover being a brolly you could if it was a proper gale drop it down low
but its rock solid in big winds and of course 10,000 HH its never gonna leak
tip if you do decide to go with the Solar REALLY check around as often they get discounted prices can and do vary

Solar just posted a photo on facebook of what they say will be the best bivvy on the market called the uni spider. Not much of a photo but the block looks interesting and well made.

It does not look like there is any tension on the material on the roof under the block.Could that be a potential for water to sit and form a pool
