Looking for a weigh tripod. Any recommendations or are they all pretty similar?

They all got 3 legs, big name version will cost much more, does the same as a cheaper version, might be a bit lighter,
I have a 30 quid job, came in its own bag, has swivel feet that can be pegged if needed, I had over 100lbs on it with no adverse affects.
it's steel but well made and strong.

I bought a nash weighpod about 15 years ago. I cant remember what it cost back then but it's still like new today. Not the lightest bit of kit out there but a mate of mine has gone through about three cheapos in that time.

I have had a a few I bought the super strong heavy duty Nash monster when I fished in Europe and often accidently caught slimey Cats
now I wanted a much lighter one main points for me fishing sloping uneven banks with good non slip adjustable legs and lightweight in the end it was a toss up between the Solar ,
Cygnet and the AVID - LOK DOWN WEIGH TRIPOD that I bought and am over the moon with its really a proper quality bit of kit and the locks on the legs are fantastic

I use a Cygnet weigh staff V2, I find the tripods just take up too much room.

I have a cygnet one - only use it in france and has done fish to over upper 60's with now issue.
Never let me down - just needs fully tightening when setting up.

Solar and Avid look good. I want quick release so not too keen on the Cygnet. Nash is heavier than my bivvy!

looked at both the Solar and Avid lock down and the Avid is definitely the better one and cheaper win win
I love the cam locks that are instant and completely solid and slip proof and as they wear over time there is a clever adjustable bolt in the clamp that will take up any wear should it occur over the years trust me it ticks every box and not a bad price at £45

I have a fox one cost me £40 I think and stands around 6' only need some fish to use it now😂😂😂

Glad you're pleased but I've never been a fan of tripods.
my choice I like the idea of being more in control, gradually lifting the fish off the ground and putting it back down quickly if necessary. I hate seeing a fish going mental on a tripod.

I had one like that in the end I hated it more of a faff that simply lifted the weigh sling onto a ready set up scales
I love a weigh tripod I set it up scales on it everything ready if the weathers bad I have a heavy duty black rubble bag over it
and if I get a big fish I want to weigh its done very quickly and so easy I will never go back to a Weigh Staff now I have a couple of camera lights I may screw one on top of it too

It's more for 2 France trips next year. My usual lake has purpose built weigh stations but I am going to 2 different lakes instead so thought I would get myself a tripod.

Rubble bag is a good tip. May get the avid one. Could be very handy in summer or on easier waters. It can be a chore if you are bagging up.

yes the Nash one I have that I bought years ago weighs a ton I bought it when it came out after seeing its launch and demo at a show weighing a 14 stone man
but its really total overkill unless your fishing for big Cats I did advertise it in classifieds but got no takers probably because its to big and heavy to post it would cost a bomb
my new Avid Lok Down tripod will weigh any carp your liable to catch

I fish for catfish, in addition to carp and others, when weighing the larger cats I have a pocket pulley that was originally purchased to lift deer, I keep it in the truck, I admit to not using it often[as I'd like to] but when you have no help and being an old but wise fella who knows how hard it is to lift a heavy weight up to the scales, it does make it easier, It's rated to 180kg, If I get anything bigger than that,, I'll phone a friend,, damn,, anything over 180 kg I'll phone them all!

I've just ordered the Avid Gerry. What sold me wad the rubble sack idea.
I have some decent Ruben's and don't like to leave them out at night or in the rain
So it can be a drama getting them from under the bed if I want to weigh a fish.
Having it all ready to go with a sack over it sound ideal

Once you've used a tripod you won't go back. More accurate and safer for the fish especially if your weighing chunks 👍

glad you like it the cam locks are the nuts arnt they ? so good I changed my Storm poles and bank sticks over to the Avid ones too

Just ordered the Avid one with 15% off at TFT. I too have the Nash one (actually the Carpzone but same thing) and never used it cause you're right, it weighs a ton.

Had 12 here yesterday Gerry so only just got it out-of the box.
Never owned one before, only used someone else's onnsite . So can't compere it.
However, I like that it's lightweight and that the camlocks make raising and levelling it nice and quick. And it will fit in with my rods.
