Thank you for being such a special girl to me/us.
I'll never forget the day that I saw you in the dogs home, sitting there one of the cutest dogs I'd ever seen. As all other dogs were barking and jumping up the cage you just sat there very quiet and I just knew you were the one for me to bring and provide a loving and caring home.
I'll never forget the time that whilst in the dogs home you nibbled your mum to be finger (exactly like our other rescue dog did).
We noticed that you had come into season and thankfully whilst still in the dogs home we had you neutered where a tumour was found on your overies and the vet put in his notes (very lucky dog who will go on to live a long life).
Special, special girl. R.I.P and I await the day when we can have hugs and kisses again.

Very sad news and I know the feeling Les but it sounds like you gave your dog the best life you could and as an owner that's all you can do so be proud

Thank you Mate, much appreciated.
We did all we could and she repaid that back tenfold.
Just cant believe it as every morning she would love her walk (despite the damage getting lungworm did) as we walked around wherever she took me to for at least an hour which was the same yesterday too.
Last evening she had what the vet said a stroke as she was sick, off balance, slobbering and it left her head leaning to the left. Absolutely devastating to have seen her like that. The vet said they could try her on meds and steroids but there was no guarantee she'd fully improve and the chances are that she'd be left with her head leaning. It was a hard yet right decision to make to let her pass but took a photo n video of our special little girl before administering the drug to put her to rest.
The pain (as you so sadly know) hurts for a long time and when that pain subsides a little then that's when we are taking comfort from the fact we gave them both a caring and loving home.
RIP Nikka my/our special little girl with lots of kisses n hugs from us all.

Similar to you, I had ours put to sleep while he was in my arms, best pal for 8 years before his illness
Didn't want another one, my missus and the daughter got another after around 3 months, life's good again now, pup that's as mad as a box of frogs and regular walks. Still miss the old dog but when I think of him it's with a smile on my face, gone but will never, ever, be forgotten

We had Nikka after I had taken her belongings to the city dogs home as I needs to pacify myself that there wasn't another dog like her. Anyhow, I turn right after coming out of the office and then my heart melted the moment I saw Nikka and was a day later but managed convince the wife (just in the nick of time as it turned out) that we should get her and when the pain eases I'll feel a whole lot better when looking back on the memories that we all made together.

ive got two labs, one of 5 and one of 12, the 12 yr old, we've just discovered she has a cancerous tumour on her left rear leg. she goes in next week to have it removed, but at 10cm round and looks like half a tennis ball, im preparing for the worst if im honest

I'd go the dogs home now but the Mrs won't have another because of the heartache , upkeep (getting no younger) or healthier for that matter but i understand.

Anyway ,we did our good deed for the dog god a coupla weeks ago,daughter and workmate took on a very old collie,approx 15 yrs old ,let down badly by its deceased family's owner..very uncertain future for sure, no doubt about it...
Long story short ,we set up a fund to sort this Collies teeth out,and rehome him,now ,teeth are done,..and Zack the Collie ,who is awesome, has a new lifetime mate,Terry ,my daughters bf,they are inseparable..

It's brilliant tazi, this dog is so friendly and trusting ,just one look into Zacks eyes ,and I'd defy anyone not to feel moved..

the only thing i cling onto, is that we give our dogs the best life they deserve mate. Someone recently said
"your dogs dont know how lucky they are!"
i could only reply
"Nor should they know how lucky they are"
we love them as part of our lives and family

Absolutely spot on as to me they're family too.
Amazing animals.
All the very best, fingers and everything crossed for your dog and thoughts to your other dog too as it must be difficult for him or her too.
They know just how much care and love you show and return it tenfold.
Nikka absolutely adored her mum and gave her a million kisses or more, as for me I had more off the neighbors dog. Having said that quite often she would come sit by my feet and wanted hugs which was truly fantastic.
A few seconds prior to going to Rainbow Bridge she wrapped her paw around my wife so tight that she now has a scratch on her wrist. Took a photo of it as a reminder of just how much she loved her mum.
The morning of having take her to the vets I said to her (want to go ta'tas) she got her stroke ridden body off the floor and still with her poor balance took 2 steps towards me but then her body wouldn't take her any further. At this point I became even more of a wreck.
I do question myself of if I should have given her a fighting chance to get better by trying medication but it was only a 30% chance that she would get better but they said she'd be left with her head leaning to the left. Couple that with her lungs were scarred (left her with coughing and shortness of breath) after getting lungworm 4 years ago I think I made the correct call.

As much as that must have hurt you all deeply, you did do the right thing mate...as difficult as it must have been. Sometimes we have to put our personal feelings aside and do whats right for the poor dog.

well Jess my 12 yr old black lab had her lump removed, aggressive cancer, they removed what the could and she has 4 layers from internal to external stiches in her rear left leg.
Vets said it will more than likely come back in some form, and we could keep operating on it, but im not putting her through that every 6-9 months.
we will have to see what happens now
