The lake I've just joined has grass carp up to a claimed 50lb. If you were targeting big grassy, what would be your go to bait? The captor of the claimed 50lb grassy is being very coy about any thing related to catching it other than a photo of a massive fish

Bait wise I have found particles a better bait than boilies, tigers and peanuts are good hook baits. If you can only use boilies then I found a fruit flavour on a bird food base the most successful.
Biggest edge I found for grass carp though is a bait boat, they seem to like the very dense baiting scenario you can achieve with a boat, far better than catapult or spodding.

Strawberry or cherry pop ups, but why target them, if this is the water I think it is you will catch them anyway fishing for carp in there. They fight like Bream then go mental when get them on the matt and apart from size they all much the same.

Had a few small grass carp, agree about dense baited areas and particles, had mine on strawberry boillies and 30 bait stringers, 3 10 bait stringers on 1 hook,

Bigger hookbaits with a higher fishmeal content.
They love small vegetable type baits, things like maize are crack to them.

I would make sure you up the gauge of your hooks. I've had a few big grassies and a few have opened up the hook.

Ah right.
Long hairs and 20mm + baits.
Grass carp pick up baits like chub do they don't filter feed like king carp do, so they can pick a boilie up, if the hair is too short they get hooked.
Doesn't work every time but will definitely reduce the bycatch
