can anyone recommend a short landing net handle for boat work?

Ask Chris Brown if he will sell you his 3ft extension handle on its own.

I use the drennan super specialist telescopic handle for boat work. Tempted by the Defiant MPS telescopic one. Nothing wrong with the drennan but just like owning stuff made by Keith!

3ft would not be long enough to land your own fish safely in a boat.

Sorry don't fish from a boat. What would you say is the ideal length of handle? From a boat.

Depends on the length of rod you are using and if zig fishing, this is why the telescopic is handy.

Cygnet sniper landing net, £40 from angling direct. 2 piece handle so can be split for boat work

I just cut the handle down on one and put a rubber cap on the end

Yeah but thats sacrificing one whole net.

I bought the trakker t8 better out there but a decent light 2 piece

Yeah, I know what you're saying but I think I had five in my garage at the time, it was an old fox one i think.

Interesting question this. I found that a normal carp net is virtually unusable in a boat if weed is involved. The cord is too flimsy and does not allow you to get the net under the fish, it collapses due to the weed. I had a 1m stiff handle built that I could screw the 30" Fox Specialist landing net into. This has a solid metal frame that allows you to push it through the weed and under the fish, the 1m handle also makes it so much more manoeuvrable

Learnt many years ago when I'm boat fishing and out in a boat trying to land a fish that a standard net and handle makes it more difficult if your trying to ship it out and net the fish before its done, you need the fish buggered gulping air and drawing the fish over the net to make it easier, the width of a standard 42" net when pushed into the water and shipped towards the fish with a long handle actually pushes you away from the fish, for convenience I went to a 3' handle as its less obtrusive to maneuver in a boat then I bought the largest round net I could find which was actually a specialist Pike net by Fox Rage it is a metal frame with coated net so I replaced this with a standard 42"carp net and it also has a telescopic handle giving more room in the boat when not in use had carp to over 78lb at Rainbow in this.

JRC Stealth has a 2 piece handle.

Mps do a short telescopic handle that goes down to about 26 inches of my memory is right.

Avid are bringing out a 369 Landing net so three sections at 3' handle lengths that connect for 3'6'9' can imagine this being quite handy.

Fox x4 net is superb the handles 1 piece so it's 8 foot for the bank but in a boat split it and it's perfect at 4ft
