So I've got a question for those of you that use mono lines!
I've always used DAIWA SENSOR 15Lb, but this last season for the first time the "new line" as been giving me some trouble.
What mono lines are you guys using ? what do you recomend ?
Im looking for a change but would love some feedback

IMHO the best all round Mono thats totally reliable is
ESP Syncro XT !! its Fast sinking good for distance casting · Excellent abrasion resistance · Super high knot strength too
but NOT the loaded version thats very different !

Silly question, has Daiwa Sensor changed or have you got different reels, or started playing fish off the clutch versus backwinding?
I found letting line off on the baitrunner and playing fish with the clutch increased line twist.
I used Daiwa Sensor in brown for many years with no problems, 10, 12 and 15lb.
The only reason I changed is because Richard Gardner asked me to test, assess and review Gardner Pro line.
I found it a better line for casting, abrasion resistance, so carried on using it.
Years later I still use it, in light for clear waters, dark for coloured waters.

not a silly question at all but same reels as last season, and same line since I started (fresh line every season) never used a different line for carp fishing.
same way playing the fish with the clutch on the same reels.
never had problems before with it, but this last season got a lot of line twists.
maybe i was just unluky with this last one, I can say the line as been great until this last season.
But yeah due to this am open for a change, and asked here because i really havent tried any other line for carp

Thanks for clearing my question up.
If it is suddenly misbehaving either you got a bad spool, or something else is wrong.
You are not the only person I have heard are having problems, but some have changed reels, so that could be a reason.
It definitely sounds like Sensor has changed.

Hi oldgeezer how are you loading this onto the reel label side up or spinning up right? If that makes sense?

ABOUT 10 QUID AMAZON I always pinch the line between a wet rag thats been soaked in water and washing up liquid and wind it on thru that it then sinks a lot faster

I haven't used one of these but it's basically the same as having a pencil through the center isn't it, I've always got line twist doing it that way rather than label size up anti clockwise coming off the spool.

Yeah I got bad line twist last time I spooled up with syncro, just seen a you tube vid doing it label side down and It looked fantastic

touch wood nope
never had it I been using a Berkley line station I bought in the USA in the early 90s till it fell apart same idea as I say the only other thing I always do is wind the line pinched in between a wet rag with washing up liquid this helps the line sink

Have you got a link to that video?
the reason i ask is that normally with the spool label down/up the line comes off anti clockwise but with syncro and the label down the line would be coming off clockwise.
The esp video's i have seen show the line coming off a spinning spool same principles as gerry's pic

I'm pretty sure the esp synchro video he does it label side up, and on the daiwa sensor not which is what I've been using for the last couple of spool ups it has been fine in 15lb brown...doing it label side up.
On another note before that I put on gthd... Worst line I've used, maybe I spooled it up wrong but nothing but horrendous twist from the start.

Been using ESP Syncro XT in 15 and 18 for a few years now. Found it very good. Always soak mine in water for 24 hours before spooling. Used to load direct from the spool in the water (cannot remember if the label was up or down) but now use a washing up bowl with 2 holes drilled in it opposite each other and thread a 12mm dowel across the bowl on which the spool of line is mounted. Fill the bowl with water so the line spool is semi submerged. Wind onto the reel under pressure. During the winding on process let the line go slack occasionally to check for any twist or coiling. Not had any issues doing this way.

@bren my eyes aren't the best looking at your link i think the way he loads label down has the line coming off the spool anticlockwise ? Maybe someone else can check that?
The two spools i have here of esp syncro xt the line exits anticlockwise with the label up, your link is from 2013 and of the old design spool im wondering if its possible that they were spooled differently then?

Put the line spool in a bucket of warm water wind onto reel on the butt section, and go slowly.
It is how I have loaded line for 30years with no problems.

It spins very slowly as I reel on slowly getting the line tight on the reel.
It usually comes off the top label side of the spool. The label traps air in the spool, so it sits upright.

You can find out yourself on what the orientation of the line Spool for a given line should be....
Reel a few yards of line on, then stop and peel the line off your Reel spool.
Grab hold of 60 cm and push your hands together. If it twists badly then you've done it the wrong way - turn the spool over, or upright till you get it the right way.

Thanks for reply nick , with the gardner pro that would be anticlockwise, i remember talking to lewis just after pro and gthd were released he said one was better anticlockwise and one with spool spinning like the link gerry put up. trouble is i couldn't remember which one was what.

That's based on what I've used for 40 odd years for mono and braid from 4lb to 15lb, its easy enough to make your own for a few pence, as all you need is-
M6 Bolt about 5” long, 3 x 6mm Penny washers, Nylock M6 Nut and a light compression spring. Position Penny a washer each side of the Spool with the Bolt as the spindle, spring on one side and then another Penny washer and then the M6 Nut you adjust /set the brake tension onto the Spool. Just lock the bolt once assembled in-between two open vice Jaws.
You just set the tension so the spool spins but does not over-run at all; using this method the line is spooled onto the Reels spool under exactly the same tension from start to finish, regardless of how much lighter the Spool becomes as line is removed.
