Looking for a new bait for long term use. Torn between these two, obviously both have great long term success. Any opinions and feedback to help me make a decision would be great. Are the liquids from RG as good as the BAF hydros? The Rg krill liquid for example. I fish a low stock syndicate water and also day tickets in between. Cheers

It may very well pay to fish “across a few brands” as it were, and coat the baits in liquids from BAF ? My theory being a lot of people like to shop in one place, and thus a lot of people might be doing the same thing.

I've not used either of those two baits but if the Trent baits shrimp boilie has a high level of shrimp in it it might be worth looking at the shrimp extract and powders that a company called bacarel sell? Extremely fresh and high quality and would probably go well with both baits. It can be a bit thick, so if I need it to soak into baits fairly quickly I'll dilute it with fish sauce ( squid brand usually ).

Anyway sorry to divert, I imagine RG ‘s liquids will be fine, I know bill Cotten had a lot of offers when he left nutrabaits and could of got himself onto anyone's team but went with them.

I've also noticed a lot of Trent customers seem to stick with them long term, ultimately that only happens if they're satisfied!

I tend to use other suppliers for my hydros who are B2B, but the samples I got a way back from BAF were all decent, only reason I didn't switch was I felt what I was using had a slight edge and was already formulated at the time. I'd deffo check them out if they're an option for something I need though.

You've positioned yourself well in other words 😂

Thanks for the reply. I do shop around at present. I'm currently using Hydra k but was thinking it may be easier if I use a company where I can get it all in one place. I know about bacarel, and have a shopping list to try out with my next order I make.

Have you used the liquid crab from bacarel? It's a fair amount more expensive than any other liquids.

Is their tuna liquid basically l030?

Hi Mate.

The crab extract is alright, as you say its expensive and I don't personally think its twice as good as some of their more economically feasible options. having said that, I've only used about 8kg of the stuff that was given to me by a friend who thought it was going to be thicker. tested it in boiled baits as well as coating and as a component in a liquid attractor.

The tuna has a similar consistency to the L030, but not the same product at all. it is very very good and has a slightly l030 back note.

My current favourite liquids for coating baits are as follows

Calanus Hydro
Minamino
Liquid Liver
shrimp extract
Grated Belechan, made wet with squid brand fish sauce - Spring liquid carp crack.
high fructose corn syrup

A touch of molasses to sweeten the first four, but beware the breams!

Nice, nice list!

I'm currently fermenting maize in the fructose trick off from here. Had great results. I've actually got bottles of all those things Any recommendations of where to get a liquid liver? The one I have is BAF, seems ok.

I've been buying beef liver from Trent Baits but they have stopped selling it. Do you know anywhere else I can get hold of it? Cheers

I honestly don't believe the beef liver makes a huge amount of difference, I started sourcing it and making my own hydrolysate to see if it was worth tge effort in our nut bait and frankly it isn't, BAF and sticky are both very good liquid livers. Sticky's is sold by a lot of firms for good reason as it's uncut, ( I'm not Saying BAF is just pointing out sticky's isn't )

AA supply beef now, but the hydro they sell is chicken. Biologic didn't sell hydro beef, I'm not sure they do now? Proper hydro beef powder would be very very expensive... It is the same product that Geoff Kemp etc used to use in little pots in the 80s...and it cost a fortune then.

Cool cheers for the heads up. I've just been using it to dust up baits and in bag mixes etc. You think it's no better than the poultry?

There is another firm claiming to sell hydrolysed beef liver powder... Boilie hub.
One look at the picture on the website will tell you that is certainly is not hydrolysed!

It might be good, but its not L030.

Sticky's liver always seemed quite runny when compared to other stuff I've used, BAF for example.

As a hydrolysate I found it absolutely not worth the hassle of doing when poultry and porcine can be sourced at great quality.

I know a lad off of hear used to sell it dehydrates into a powder and ground down but that's certainly not hydrolysed.

Sorry just seen this, The sticky stuff I've seen is standard thickness? I know it to be a pure product so its likely any thinning has occurred through age and seperation, which can happen if its static for a while in the shop etc. should be a thick custard consistency

It's in the MOD Area Nick as it got out of hand as per the norm in the Bait section..but....

Fermented Maize

Take 1lb of dry maize.
Soak in a bucket with warm water, and some raw cane sugar. Just a table spoon full or two.
Soak this for twelve hours.

Boil it up for ten minutes.

You do not want to break the maize by boiling it. The kernels should remain intact.

Once boiled, drain, and place back into a small bucket.
Add a big hand full of raw cane sugar whilst still hot, and shake up.
Put the lid tightly on the bucket... Then place on a radiator, or in direct sunlight for at least forty eight hours, thirty six is even better.
Don't peek, just leave the lid on. No new air must enter the bucket, for the very best results.
Now take the lid off, and throw a handful of natural salt onto them.
Shake the maize up... It's now good to go.

You have helped to get things kicking inside the maize itself.
The heat and the sugar, have helped the maize to ferment. The salt will help to sort of freeze, or slow down this fermentation for you, for longer use in an angling situation. What you have now, is super charged maize. You only need a handful around each rod with your other free bait.
It will make a big difference. It's time specific. When it starts to smell strongly of alcohol, the magic is gone. Start again.

EDIT: Tell a lie, it's
HERE but it's locked

is it that good compared to normal prepared maize?
I feed it on the Thames, but never use on the hook due to ravenous bream

Going to give the belachan fish sauce a go Mozzi. Will with belachan dilute in to the fish sauce so I can coat pellets etc? If not What's the best way to dilute a block into liquid form? Cheers

Sorry, didn't answer this as someone inboxed me for the exact same thing!

Belechan Slurry

Grate 1 block into either a bucket or food processor
add 400g fish sauce

blend

or if in bucket, leave overnight, then use a whisk or plasterers paddle.

its "sort of " pva friendly as well due to the sheer volume of salt in it, you can definitely inject a bag or dip a stick just before casting no issue.

The saltiness makes it fantastic on fishmeals all through the spring, you cannot over do.
