HAHA Ci4's even ....... looking for some new Ci4's for Harrison Torrix .(40mm) I'm after 3 and was originally thinking the 1400 Ci4 but a couple of users have complained about line getting under the guard and there are loads of nearly new for sale 2nd hand . I have some older XSA 10,000's Ci4 and never had an issue has anyone else suffered this problem with the 14000 ... it maybe I'll go for the smaller 5500 Ci4s instead do they have the same issue with them if true or are the smaller a better option anyway ... thanks for any replies...

hahaha just gone back some posts and found a chasing chunks review he confirmed line guard issues on 1400 ... so the question is now is it the same issue on the 5500's IF so do you use and highly recommend for around £200 a reel.. happy to go used ...

I was very impressed with the Daiwa Emblem 35 SCW and 45 SCW reels, both available in your price range felt really well made in hand. Quite a big reel though due to the 45mm spool so may need to view in hand before purchase.

I have the daiwa emblem 35scw. I actually really rate them especially for the price, you can get them for about £109 currently at total fishing tackle.
Others on here have said they have had trouble with the line getting caught behind the spool or line guard. Not to say they haven't but personally haven't had these issues.
They are a lot of reel for the price in my opinion. Worth a look at deffinetly.

I've got Ci4 5500 XTB's and have never experienced any problems with line going behind the guard since I took notice of Shimano's advice not to overfill the spools. It's exactly the same with the 1400 size.

I'm keeping the pair of 10000 XSA I've never had a problem with them great reels .. IF I could get a 3rd I'd be interested they are on my pair with 50mm rings.. but fancy something a bit smaller for the 40mm ... I have a pair of 5500 xtb but again need a 3rd which I guess is cheaper and readily available for £100 but really like the Ci4 so 5500 now seems a great option.. over filling them definitely would explain the line under the spools with the 1400's ..

Check out ebay, they pop up almost weekly as the tarts change they reliable stuff for modern reels made of plastic.

Yes, the 5500's have these issues. Been back to the store once and they gave me new line guard cause the old one snapped on me the first time out last summer. Store said it was a common issue and he had loads of spare guards.

I've also got ultegra ci4 's in both 5500 and 14000, no issues with line being the spool. As previously said overfilling will cause issues same as most reels.

No, I have XTB's. It has little to do with overfilling the spools as I understood. The thing is those line guards move up and down in a kind of gully in the reel during oscillation. Every now and then - when disaster strikes - the line guard moves up too much and comes loose. This means the line guard will spin your line outside and around the spool, creating all sorts of nasty situations (pardon my English, may be a bit unclear when it gets too technical).
I almost lost my PB because of it, the very first time I took them out. My supplier said it was just bad luck, because it hardly ever happens with XTB's. He did mention he distributed more than 100 spare line guards, most of them for XTD's. To be honest, I'm not really comfortable using them anymore. Had another one come loose too, but I was just in time to push it back. Pretty poor for the nearly £500 I paid for three of them.

Strange that your shop should see so many, mine has seen none of this with ci4's, of which they have sold loads, also said not seen it with power aero's or techniums which have the same design of line gaurd.

Just to be clear, which part has been your issue...
Is this the line guard that floats under the spool, or the line roller assembly on the bale arm?

Its the line guard, that rather fragile piece of plastic at the bottom of the spool.

There is no way that can come loose,it sits under the spool and the lugs go into a groove either side of the rotar.

Hmm, will check asap to be sure if I'm talking about the same reel. Paid them cash and only used them twice so far so a bit in doubt if I have the Ci4s now. I may have the non-Ci4's then. But if they cant come loose on those Ci4's, first thing I will do is trade mine for those, because on mine they do come loose and my supplier had a bag of spares handy like they were Hunter 750s.
Edit: the line guard does look to be the exact same.

The line guard should be the same on them all,it sits on the spindle under the spool.Take a look at the replacement line guards available to buy and you should see what I mean

Yeah, it is the exact same one. Believe me they can get out. Had it happen twice in a week. Once they get out, the reel jams completely and the line guard breaks.

Be sure the little plastic sleeves haven't come off the pegs that fit into the runners.
Mine were falling off my reels every time so i ended up putting a tiny dot of superglue on them.
If lost you can probably improvise with a small bit of shrink tube.

Thats a good point shrink tube would probably work well in the past i have used a small section of 1mm silicon

Silicone is too grippy.
heat shrink works well, but you may need a double thickness. When it feels right you can take the pre-formed sleeve off, add a dot of suerglue with the tip of a pin then re-add the sleeve.

Thanks for the tip, but I prefer not to apply any DIY-solutions on new, premium brand reels that cost me an arm and a leg. Just wanted to answer the initial question. If they jam one more time all three will go back to sender as I still have some 7 months warranty
