The closest to the original is John bakers Topex.

I also use the the BAF which is decent.

I've got a bottle of rods original. It actually has a slightly washing up liquid backnote to it. Which is a bit odd.

John Baker Toppex....according to JB it's as close to the original as you can get. He seems a very genuine guy and I have indeed bought a bottle, which smells like Scopex!

Is that because it's somewhat out of date?

To be honest I'm not 100% sure of it's age. It was given to me as a present after rod passed away. It was decanted into the bottle I have from much larger containers from his house. So I never saw if the original container was dated. For this reason I've never used it in any bait that I've sold, only my personal hookbaits and for friends. Interestingly I was also give some of his crab flavour which does seem to have aged better. I wouldn't say the Scopex smells off or rancid, just that it has a backnote to it that's not there in the others.

Rods V original (v early 80s) scopex, had a back note of sour cream I always thought.
Tbh by the mid 80s it had changed, I asked Rod at a conference if it had, and he a little reluctantly said he had to change flavour houses, or something similar.
Still a great flavour though, but not a touch on hes original batches.

Was always lead to believe the actual flavours were rancid butter & raspberry 🤔

Toppex is very strong, but tbh doesn't remind me much of the original 80s scopex. His Milky1 to me, smells a little more like the original.
Toppex is very acidic, so I suspect it is high in NBA and diacetyl.

I was given a supposed recipe for Scopex and it is extremely high in NBA and another carboxylic acid.

I've got a bottle of each....milky 1 and Toppex. To my nose Toppex smells a lot more like The original Scopex. Having said that, it is now well at least 25 years since any of us last smelt a fresh bottle of ‘proper' scopex.

I told the tale recently of a friend who bought me approx 10 old bottles of Hutchie and Catchum flavors. All with the exception of Maple smelt absolutely rank....including Scopex. Funnily enough they actually all smelt quite similar!

Haven't used this flavour since early 90's, surely Nash one is decent?

The nash scopex was good !
I used it alone in 2006 to 2009 and also combined with butyric.

I used 3ml of scopex with 4 drop of butyric for 6 egg's, it worked fantastic !

Don't know if it's still the same now ???

I've got. A bottle of the recent Nash Scopex. Smells good, much more malty and less sweet than the Toppex.

Seems I have a bit of a Scopex fetish!
