As you all probably know I have a headtorch addiction owning or have owned well over 30 different headtorches 
today I found another one so far I have resisted the buy it now button but Im weak and not sure I will last the day
anyway its £16.99 on Amazon and I am liking the specs in great battery life fast charging with a power pak on the bank red option and a wave your hand to switch on
OF COURSE it wont stop me using my Nitecore NU25 Head Torch my all time favourite of course

Headlights with the wave your hand in the front of it came out a long time ago, I have never indulged in one but from what I have read they are a pain in the backside when your wearing it on a night and every time you wave your hand across your face to get rid of bugs or mozzies etc, you turn it on when you don't want it on, or turn it off when you don't want to turn it off. And as bugs etc are attracted to a light on a night, when your using it, your constantly turning it on and off.
Because of this, I never bought one as I initially thought they would be good and actually thought they had stopped making them with this feature.

I got the NU25 after your recommendation, great bit of kit and would buy another tomorrow if i lost it. Can't see the need for anything else so save your money

Oddly enough, I have an addiction to them too, about 4 years ago, I was taking 6 of them with me, 1 in the car as a spare and 5 in my fishing bags.
Now, I have cut it down to 3, 1 in the car and 2 in the fishing bag.
And I can still never find one in the bivvy when I want one sometimes.

thats one of the good things about the Nitecore nu25 its so small and super light I sleep with it on or have it round my neck with no problems
think after giving away a lot of head torches to friends I still have about 18 lol

i got the NU25 on your recommendations on here fantastic bit of kit, i too have about 12 different head torches luckily i can use the spare ones in work or winter dog walking lol. but when i take my kid to my syndicate i need 4, as its one headtorch and a spare per person in the rules. so i generally cycle through them all lol
We are actually spoilt with todays selection of headtorches. Back in about 1968 to 1970ish, I won a headtorch in a sea angling match, a Pifco electrical headlamp. it was huge, 5 x D 1.5v batteries in it and the lamp bit was like some thing on front of a Ford Cortina.
If you clipped the battery box onto your trouser belt, it would pull your trousers down with the weight, so everywhere you went you carried it in one hand like an Apollo astronaut with the cable stretching up to your head..
Looking at a catalogue, they was £1 18 shillings in old money and used for caving and weighed 15oz, without batteries. If you fell in with it on you, chances are you would be heading for the bottom.
But, they was very popular and had a hell of a beam of light on them and were great for scrambling up and down the cliffs despite taking up one hand to hold the power pack. I think I only got rid of mine a few years back.

Ok I bought one. Mainly out of curiosity and a search for a headlamp with a really bright red light. Only tried it in the garden. It's a good lamp. Light and comfortable but not as light as nu25. Bright white is very bright. Lower white setting is very usable up close.
Unfortunately the red light seems dimmer to me than the nu25.
Motion on off works well but not something I would use. So it's going in the kitchen drawer for household use. Unless the motion sensor on/ off is a real winner for you I would say the nu25 is better overall.
My search for a really bright red light headlamp goes on.

If you want a dedicated red light headtorch then the zebralight h502pr is the best I have seen.Its not cheap and only has a red light function but it's very good

Have you already tried the energizer range?
The one like below has 2 x red leds and are fairly bright using them.

Yes have got this one excellent for the money the red light on the nu25 seems a bit brighter to me. Nu25 is a bit lighter and rechargeable which tips the balance in it's favour for me.

Looks worth a punt shame it's not rechargeable as runtime on 1xAA is limited but plenty for landing a few fish. I've ordered one. Thanks for the info.

I fear that you may be suffering from cranial lanterna addictus.
This is a little known but serious sub branch of nyctophobia (fear of the dark). Tell me, do you find yourself yearning to be away from well lit areas, perhaps a desire to stay out overnight in secluded countryside locations, such as near lakes or rivers? This is often a tactic used by sufferers of cranial lanterna addictus who try to disguise their addiction by the use of other pastimes such as fishing or hunting at night.
