Would i notice much difference between the Shimano Speedmaster 14000 XTC and Shimano Ultegra CI4+ 14000 XTC Reel as the difference in price is is £109.99 each and £234.99 each?

Not used either so can't comment for sure but I'd guess you'd notice some difference, but wether it's enough to justify the price difference that's for you to decide.there are other companies around which offer reels which are just as good if not better than Shimano and daiwa but at better prices too, Penn and okuma are the 2 that spring to mind

Yes, you would definitely notice the difference, I can only refer to the xta med br, the Ci4 model feels smoother and obviously lighter, a much better reel than the standard model.
I can only assume others are the same.
If you can afford get the Ci4.

You will notice a difference,lighter,smoother better build quality and the ci4 are stiffer in the reelseat stem so don't flex when reeling in and casting.If weight is not an issue I would save yourself some money and go for some penn 7000ltd.The penn for the money take some beating

Will they be smaller than my Shimano 8000 baitrunners i currently have, as i was looking at the Shimano Speedmaster 14000 XTC or the Shimano Ultergra Ci4 14000 XTC as an upgrade in size etc

No they will be bigger,14000 is a big pit reel,5500 is baby big pit which is still bigger.They are front drag not baitrunner too

It's all personal choice,I personally won't buy shimano anymore and they are all I used to buy.I just think the build quality is not there anymore and there is better value for money on the market now.Can you not go and have a play with both in the shop

Have a shop around as you can get both those models cheaper than that,and i also would,nt buy shimano reels ,but i know alot that do

It's definitely possible - I picked up some 14000 CI4's recently for £215 each. Brand new, from a tackle shop, so not any kind of new-other via a selling site etc.

Because the bloke I know in the tackle shop said the Speedmaster is a fantastic reel with great line lay nice slow wrap, which then led onto people suggesting it's worth paying extra for the ci4's though

It may well be a good reel, but at that price range there are quite a few good reels. You are fishing for carp, not sharks so there's no need to be spending over £200 per reel. Some of the money people spend is way ott, if you want to then great, but it really isn't necessary

Which are you leaning more towards,I spend stupid money on reels and have had alot of the top end models.Are they worth the money?not a chance but I like nice things and look after my gear.If I was starting out again I would probably save a fortune and go for Penn 7000ltd on distance set up and Okuma 6000 I think they are on my 10fts and have probably well over a grand in my back pocket

Not the liveliner,the 7000ltd if you shop around you can get them cheaper than that.They do one with carbon trim and handle on it if want something a bit fancy

Stock of many reels is a big problem and has been for some time.......
I recently picked up the Ci4 14k's and it was a struggle, as soon as their in stock their sold... so, don't hold on too long else you'll lose out and as other have said it's largely a sellers market as well atm.

I had pretty much decided on buying the Ci4+ 14000 XTC but went into the tackle shop to have a final look at them and the young bloke in there was saying why bother with getting a 14000 spool just buy the Ci4+ 5500 XTC if i dont do loads of distance fishing. Or even buy the Ultegra 5500 XTD that are cheaper and upgrade the washers to give it a quicker front drag?

I bought mine from Bobco. Like you & others have rightly mentioned, there do seem to be stock issues. I know I spent way more time than I probably should searching and checking prices etc. and signing up to stock alerts!

I got some 5500 ci4s in February for £200 each brand new from a well known tackle shop after speaking to them on the phone, was very happy with the price and since they seemed to have shot up in price.
I'm very happy with them aswell so smooth and light, I love mine I did have 14000 before these and Lucy prefer these I only fish upto 100/120 yards at the most so these are perfect for that

Which I wasn't planning on doing as I bought them as a second set for my distance rods. In terms of my choice between the sizes, my club waters require a certain bs & diameter of mono, plus there's a leader ban (like many others) so I specifically wanted the larger model.
But, like everything, it's a personal choice and what works for me may not suit everyone. For various reasons (size, weight, cost etc.). As long as whatever you use works for you and your angling situation, that's all that matters.
